I'm sure that was not meant as a compliment
Instead as a disadvantage for your mouse!

A compliment to pibbur, certainly! The mouse - well, that's a more personal thing.

Oh! Didn't think of that. Just glad he didn't call me a fanboi…

But seriously - it's not erratic anymore, works just fine. It took some effort, and not everything was documented. So, since I wrote all those nice things about it, I thought I should tell you about the issues and what I had to do to get it working.

BTW: Here's the reg fix I used to disable mouse acceleration in Win7: The MarkC Windows 7 Mouse Acceleration Fix . It's a general fix, not designed specifically for this mo(use|nster).

Some more information regarding the RAT. Unfortunately, it turned out that my claim that the mouse no longer behaved erraticly was inaccurate, I still had problems. After more googling I found out that the mouse is very sensitive to your choice of mousepad. I've used a nice black one, which has worked fine with all my previous mice, including the G500 laser mouse. But the RAT was much more picky, and not entirely happy with my dark one. Replacing the mousepad with a yecchy blue "www.dell.no" thingy seems to have eliminated all tracking problems, including the delay I mentioned when switching PCs using the KVM box.

So, the final judgement: Would I buy the mouse if I knew about the problems? Probably no. OTOH, I'm glad I did, because it's working as it shoukd now, and it is a very cool mouse that fits my right hand perfectly. (BTW: stay away from it if you're left handed).

Now I only have to find my Dream Theater mousepad. Any suggestions about where it can be?

I removed the key again and there was something under it which was causing the alt key to be pressed as well. I did that first thing and must have missed it first time. Thanks for the help everyone. Greatly appreciated. What an absolute royal pain in the ass that was.
