Default What do you have for breakfast and lunch?

March 15th, 2011, 15:39
Hmm, well to keep all 280 pounds on my frame requires much diligence.

Breakfast, typically a large bowl of cereal and a cornucopia of pills. I'm diabetic, have high blood pressure, high cholesterol and take a water pill. I will eat a sausage biscuit about once a week. Weekend breakfasts are typically eaten out with pancakes, meat, hash browns (potatoes), and coffee. I drink about 20 ozs. of coffee every morning.

Lunch is almost always eaten out and has great variety because of this. It can be anything from burgers, steak, fish, chinese, mexican, etc. Yesterday was mexican, where I had chicken fajita nachos: Chicken breasts cut up over nacho chips with green peppers, onions, tomatoes, and lots of white cheese.

Dinner is often eaten out as well. If not we'll have spaghetti, hamburger helper, tuna casserole, pork chops, salisbury steak, etc.

Caffeine is in nearly every beverage that I drink, except for milk at breakfast. I rarely drink water but I'll have juice a couple times a week. I drink a lot of instant tea and diet soda. Caffeine is my drug of choice over alchohol or cigarettes.

I seriously agree.

I have began wildly experimenting with putting vegetables into pans or just to cook them - plus rice or baked potatos (which is my favourite meal next to bavarian Knödels ! )

My currently favourite "experiment" is putting several kinds of vegetables into a pan, roast them a bit (I know that the vitamins degrade at that, but I jut don't care that much about it), and to oten pour ready-made sweet-and-sour sauce over it. Rice put to it as well.

Apart from that I've been making Pizza myself, too. It's incredibly easy !

I eat outside for all three meals. I rarely eat at home. Usually a typical breakfast with eggs, ham and green tea or some fresh juice; an apple, pears, peach or banana before lunch, usually some sort of salad with either pork, chicken or fish (or something packing more "punch" (eg. a punch on your heart) once a week) for lunch and random meal (usually Thai, Chinese or along those lines) for dinner. And usually another cup of green tea before going to bed.

I'd like to believe that I'm eating healthy but somehow I don't think it can be too healthy to dine outside constantly. I expect to die an early death.

Your meals seem a lot healthier than what some of my fellow-countrymen eat at home.

Carpe diem for you then. Carpe diem quam minimum credula postero, seize the day, putting as little trust as possible in the future - which is a nice directive in general IYAM.

Welcome BTW, villain of the story, I hope you'll enjoy RPGWatch and the forums in particular.

Varies depending on what I expect from the day. Workdays I typically make scrambled eggs with toast, fruit and water more often than not. Then for lunch a simple protein bar and a diet soda. My job is usually 85-90% deskwork so I don't need too much, in spite of having a large body type.

I end up eating out most days I'm in for heavy lifting, not really healthy, but it's tough to beat when it comes to quick energy.

On quiet days I just have some fruit in the morning and something simple like a sandwich for lunch.

The big meals for my family are typically dinner. My wife and I are both good cooks of comparable skill, and we've got a bit of a competition going over it.

Very interesting thread, Omega.

Under normal circumstances I enjoy good ol American cereal (I'm not sure if cereal refers to something different elsewhere.) for breakfast.

For lunch, on school days I usually make a peanut butter and honey sandwich. Other than that I like to mix it up. I may go for a cheese burger, soup with bread, [American] Chinese food, Hawaiian food (not traditional, modern is much easier to find).

When I started living with my wife's family (they are Filipino) it came as quite a shock to me that they wanted me to eat rice for breakfast. Haha, that took me a while to get used to. I'm perfectly fine with rice for lunch or dinner but at breakfast it just seems out of place. They also eat various vegetables with the rice for breakfast. One time my mother in law cooked some eggs for breakfast and when she noticed that I ate all three (I later found out that it was for the whole family but, being the American that I am, thought that three is only enough for one or two people haha!) she started cooking them all the time.

I've always understood that they eat a lot of rice and in their culture, it's very important for survival, but I am still learning just how important it is to them. Just tonight my wife told me that we didn't have anymore rice. I had to immediately drop everything and buy some.

Once when I was staying with some people in the Philippines I took them out to a local Pizza Hut in Manila for a change of pace. They were quite upset that they couldn't have rice with their pizza!!

It's not though! I've been trying to perfect my pizza bases for years. I've had some good results leaving them for about 8 hours before cooking but thats a long preparation time. If you cook it too early you'll kill the yeast before its used up enough of the sugar, but too late and ur left with something spongy and i like it a bit chewy but crispy. I've decided its almost impossible to get it perfect using a typical home oven anyway. The pizza stores will always have their massive top and bottom heat grills over us.

Also, i've had some good results with my new microwave with a grill in the top and a black teflon kinda pizza plate that helps crisp the bottom up well. Its probably better than the oven.

James, I like making from scratch where i can, but pizza crusts are notoriously difficult to manage, especially without, as you mention, the right ovens. Good quality premade crusts work quite well for only a small fraction of the effort

Okay, it might be indeed a case of "easy to produce, difficult to master" …

My own … what's the word ? demand ? - just isn't very high. I#m totally content with the most basic ingredients.

I'll experiment further on in the future, though.

But since several years I notice a kind of … what's the word ? I don't have the Enzyms anmore to digest Lactose http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lactose which leads to an aching after too much of milk. Thousands of years that was normal, by the way, not to be able to digest Lactose …
You dont`t have Lactose free milk in Germany? Hard to believe since my cousin is buying it in Spar stores here and you do have Spar (Edeka) in Germany. They have quite a range of lactose free products.

Well, I never bothered until I began searching for it.

What one doesn't know cannot be made conscious.

Now I'm consciously looking for it - and indeed it is there !

But today I bought something different : A milk-like beverage partly made of oats … similar to the so-called "smelk" …

The one constant is coffee @ 6am - Sumatra, Panama Boquete or Hawaiian Kona if I feel like splurging(~30USD per lb)… As for the food part of breakfast that varies: mango, melon or strawberries + yogurt is my quick fix. If I have the time and/or desire I'll make anything from pecan pancakes to steak 'n eggs.

I typically skip lunch or eat a ZonePerfect nutrition bar(fudge graham = yum) or two if I'm hungry since I rarely have the time for a proper meal.

Don't take this the wrong way, but that sounds awful. I don't know what I'd do if I became lactose intolerant… A glass of milk and warm fresh bread is one of my favorite snacks/meals. A milk-like beverage partly made of oats seems kind of erm…

Coco Pops ! That's basically my breakfast every day. Lunch can be anything from just a few pieces of fruit if I'm not too hungry to a full-on steak with fries or teriyaki chicken.
I don't cook much though, so I eat out a lot.

I've had a similar experience. We took my wife's parents to an American restaurant and they hated it because they weren't served any rice!
