PC Games Deserving of a Sequel
February 12th, 2007, 21:03
Oh, if we're not going strictly CRPG here, I vote for a Realms of the Haunting 2, a Hexen III, a Shadowcaster 2, a Cyberstorm 3 (or a *good* remake of No. 2), Arx 2 (but I think this one was already mentioned), a Rise of the Triad 2, an Undying 2, another Serious Sam, and - of course - yet another Wolfenstein.
And Ken's Lab 2, of course

What does it say about me that I knew what all these acronyms meant?
Oh, and EDIT'ing my contributions in: how about a proper Space Quest game? Roger Wilco needs something better than the last in the series (SQ6)!
Grim Fandango II??
(just reinstalled one!)Wing Commander 5!
And last but not least: a return to the Stauf mansion in a sequel to The 11th Hour! That one may not be everyone's cup of tea.

And, as someone's already mentioned, Darklands. Not so much a sequel but a remake of the classic, keeping the menu based system in towns, the overland travel, but with a greater variety of things to do -- quests, missions from the Church, the factions, and also ways to get involved in the political structure of the land that would go beyond defenestrating a raubritter and looting his keep, like, say, having your party declare themselves masters in place of the offed baron.
Also Master of Magic 2.

Simon the Sorcerer 4. I'm glad it is actually in the making and the screens look very good !
They catch the flavour of the first two games *very* good.
Not long ago I would've saisd Sam & Max 2 - but that's history, you know.
I'Äm just waiting for some kind of CD or DVD release of their new game.
What I also would like to see is Stonekeep 2 : Godmaker.
Another Laura Bow adventure would be nice, too.
But I fear we won't ever see anything regarding the old Sierra games, *ever*.

Wizardry 9 would be most inviting.
NOLF 3. All the humor of the first, with better game play. Most hilarious game I've every played. but damn, the gameplay was seriously painful at times.
Ultima Underworld 3. Preferably closer to the first, and please, no Lord British.
Daggerfall 2. No, not TES 3, 4, or 5.
Thief 0. Tell the story of Garrett's leaving of the Keepers, with more exploration of the City's history. No saving the world/City this time. This is the one I'd love to make myself, and I know how I'd do it. Never happen, so I'll use the ideas some other way that won't get smited by Eidos.

Ionstormsucks says: Thief needs a sequel or prequel… or something. It is a game that deserves one. Admitedly the 3rd part wasn't as bad as I feared, still thinking about thief gives me headaches since it is one of the games that somehow became worse with every sequel without becoming really bad. The first part is undoubtedly one of the best and most innovative games ever made (please, I don't want to hear anything about thief not being innovative because there were some japanese stealth games before thief - I give a damn about games that feature heroes with names like solid and liquid snake…). Thief is maybe the one game that I would really like to see a "true" sequel of. Most other games could do with a spiritual successor.
Other games that deserve a sequel or at least a spiritual successor… certainly Jagged Alliance (although a sequel seems to be in the works). System Shock - but I have the feeling that Bioshock is something like that. Fallout, well… hmmm… let's wait and see.
Another game that deserves a sequel is, of course, the Knightrider crpg… should a first part ever be released…

Arcanum definiitely needs a sequel. Otherwise I dont know, my favourite franchises (Gothic, Baldurs Gate, and until recently TES) all have new releases planned. Ditto for Realms of Arkania.

heretic 3. I loved the first two, and would like a nice fantasy FPS again.
Diablo 3, I loved the first one, and enjoy the second but the dated graphics strain the eyes a bit too much.

Gothic 4
The gothic series made me interested in RPG's
Giants Citizen Kabuto 2
The first title is a game I still play every once in a while.

The cancelled sequel that I was probably most sad about was Outcast 2. Outcast for me, was the best action adventure (with quite a bit of RPG flavoring, too!) I ever played.

Well, being a fairly new Warlords fan, I'd love for a Warlords V and Warlords BattleCry IV to see the light of day some day. Soon.
I'd love a sequel to Heroes of Might and Magic III/IV. In a way that it ends up as not being Heroes V. What I want from such a game - to bring back old worlds and heroes from both games, and storyline continuations. With gameplay resembling Heroes IV.
I'd like a Disciples 3. I know it is in the works, and will see light of day within the year (hopefully), but since there is hardly any information on whether or not they are continuing the storyline of when Disciples 2 Rise of the Elves, as I want to know what all those senceless fighting was all for.
On a rather more personal wish game, I really would love if a new Legacy of Kain games comes out. While not entirely impossible (it was a great franchize with one of the best stories ever told in a game) I don't want it to disappoint me.

Warlords 5 is very likely to materialize. www.warlorders.com isnt a particularly pretty site, but the developer does show up on their forum at times…

My Wishlist:
- Outcast 2 (because of the world, the characters, the gameplay)
- Deus Ex 2 (I want a real second part without dumbed-down gameplay and microworlds and stupid story)
- Thief 3 (well, same as Deus Ex 2; this time, Garrett's acting should make sense)
- System Shock 3 (without the bad ending of the 2nd part)
- Ultima 9 (I can accept Pagan as an experiment, but I will never accept Ascension as the end of the trilogy; the game is a desaster)
- Gothic 3 (smaller world with actually _interesting_ places and characters, please; oh, and I want the old monsterdesign back, not those too much Z-Brushed ones)
- Ultima Underworld 3 (perhaps with a party this time?)
- Bloodlines 2 (with even more sexy characters!)
- Half-Life 2 (where that pathetic "The Free Man"-plot doesn't exist)
- Aliens vs. Predator 3 (marine-only would be enough; the expansion-pack was the worst thing I ever played, though)
- Arcanum 2 (the setting is awesome, too bad nobody cared)
- PS:T 2 (with even more philosophy!)
- Project Eden 2 (the setting could carry another game, even with the same gameplay - I liked controlling four people at the same time)
- Alone in the Dark 4 (in the style of AitD 2; never got into the fourth part, and they now make an AitD 5 with more action, bah)
IMHO games that don't need a sequel:
- Arx Fatalis (the game was an awful "inoffical Ultima Underworld successor" - the setting and the story and the characters and the world … didn't make sense)
- Divine Divinity (the world isn't that new and interesting, the characters where dumb, too; did enjoy the game, though)
- Beyond Good & Evil (great game, a sequel just would destroy its greatness, I think)
- Evil Islands (pretty lame game)
- TechnoMage (ugh)
- etc.

well beyond good & evil was intended to be part of a trilogy so i don't see how giving us the other parts would destroy it
…but its good to see someone else who is a fan of project eden. its been years since i've played it and really need to play it through again--one of the best action adventure games ever made. core design is off the hook in my book of making all the later lackluster tomb raiders just for cranking out this gem. i think it still holds the record to for the quickest save system in a 3d world…it boggles the mind.

I have heard rumors that a second part od Beyond Good & Evil is probably being made one day. I don't know real things, though.
TechnoMage … Have it still here without being played … it's actually one of the most colourful games I ever saw (only played the demo this far).

The universe deserves Space Rangers 3, but there is about as much chance of that being developed as I have of reinstalling Oblivion. On the bright side it'll be at least ten years before I get bored of Space Rangers 2.
I'd also like a prequel story to No One Lives Forever featuring Tom Goodman as the main character
