Lt. Kijé Suite: II. Romance
Russians

A long time ago a friend of mine bought a "best of" CD of Sting and the song Russians was on it. I liked the song and he told me that according to the credits it was based on music by Prokofiev but it didn't specify from which work. It was around the time I started listening to and exploring classical so I wasn't too familiar with Prokofiev's music. I went to the library and randomly rented one CD of Prokofiev naïvely hoping that that one contained Sting's reference material. Well, I chose the right one and there it was, I recognised the melody…what were the odds .

(Btw, I didn't know about the Greg Lake borrowing until now).

Yeah, ELP and other prog rock artists borrowed a lot of melodies from classical pieces.

Where can I run
How can I hide
The Silmarils
Gems of treelight
Their life belongs to me
Oh it's sweet how the
Darkness is floating around

We are following
The will of the one
Through the dark age
And into the storm
