What games are you playing now?
July 4th, 2017, 14:34
I'm struggling to settle into a game currently. I've started a few and drifted away after a few hours. Most recently this happened with Antharion - it looked like a decent game in some ways, but it just didn't hold my attention.
So I've fired up Darkest Dungeon. I'm about an hour in and its ok, but I don't imagine it will keep me playing for 30hrs or anything. Maybe I'm wrong and it will suddenly take over my life for a few weeks.
I'm not sure I'm giving these games a fair shot, really… Maybe I'm just not in a gaming space at the minute. But at least I'm seeing a bit of my backlog I guess

I'm pretty deep into Blackguards two, really enjoying the overall story and the acquisition of new members along the way. I'd have to say that, overall, this game seems way easier than the previous one. I've only had two difficult fights up to now, and once I got the battle mage, things really got easy.

I'm also struggling with a bit of gamer's ADD lately. Since playing through Prey and System Shock 2, I've just been bouncing from game to game unable to settle into anything.
I was enjoying Starcrawlers for a time, but I lost interest when I realized the main story missions had to be completed in 1 go. Also, some of the battles were a bit grindy which I wasn't in the mood for.
I played around with Vanquish for awhile. Seems like a decent enough game, and I'll probably go back to it at some point.
Spent a few hours installing and tweaking Crysis and Crysis: Warhead before I realized I wasn't really in the mood for a first-person shooter. I plan on going back to those as well in the near future.
Currently trying to tweak State of Decay: Year-One Survival Edition to my liking. It seems like the kind of game I could have some fun with, but the graphics look like ass which is surprising considering it uses Cryengine.

It's an open-world game that combines action & stealth, role-playing, survival, and base-building elements. I'm not sure if it's as good as the sum of its parts, but I'll give some feedback as soon as I start playing in earnest. I know HiddenX has played it and had quite a bit of praise for it.

However, if you don't mind that - it's pretty neat as a light Zombie survival fest.
As for something a little different and "almost" fresh, have you played Red Solstice?

I think I played the demo for Red Solstice. Four-man squad right? Alien outbreak of some kind? It seemed ok. I'm guessing it's better co-op.

I wanted to gift you Red Solstice, but apparently Steam changed how that works.
Now you have to be on my friend list for some reason.
Anyway, you can add me: dk_dartagnan if you're interested.
Red Solstice isn't a miracle by any means - but it's got sort of a cute Aliens vibe in the singleplayer compaign - which I thought might be for you.

Still playing Pillars of Eternity, but I am starting to lose my enthusiasm for it. I started chapter 3 and arrived in Twin Elms, but have no will to continue… because somehow I know what awaits me ahead and how it will turn out.
OK, let me look into the crystal ball:
After a couple of dragging quests my party will finally track the main villain down in some lone place/dungeon, where, confronted, after long monologue, he will tell me how he wants to become god and then I will kill him in most tough battle of the game, right?!
I guess I'm losing my will to play PoE mainly because it feels like it was seen, heard and been played many times before - it is all the same, nothing fresh and new
Party of adventurers against some crazed guy, who wants to become god or destroy whole world - been there, seen that…
Ha ha it is always the same with me and games for the last couple of years - it all starts great and I think "wow, really nice game, this one, I will definitely play it till the ending", but at some point novelty wears off and I stop playing. There is really only so few games I have finished in last 10 years! On most of them I got bored and give up.

Almost. The battle ain't very tough (the dragons, Siege of Crägholdt, Concelhaut, Llengrath are all much harder) but other than that not a bad guess
.
I wouldn't quit now though. If you made it this far, you might as well keep trucking and finish the damned thing. It's not that long anymore. Maybe ignore side quests and go straight for the ending then you could literally be done in a couple of hours or so.

Occasionally I manage to play one over a long period of time in bursts but this is less than ideal, continuity isn't easy to maintain when you pick something up after ignoring it for 6 months.

On topic… I'm tapping my head at the moment wondering what to play. I tried some of the first Hitman game the other day but it's a bit clunky to the point of being a little frustrating. Otherwise after recently enjoying some Titan Quest I fired up the first Torchlight last week too for a few hours.

I was playing the first Blackguards, then I stopped. I'd say I paused it for a while. I've fought the first Arena combat but the second one, where we fight against a tough fighter + a mage, is hard as hell. Way harder than the first combat. I've chosen to pit Naurim and Zurbaran against the enemy duo and… Jesus, how many hit points does the enemy fighter have? After countless defeats, I decided to take a break from the game.
And then I started playing Bioshock 1: Remastered. If memory serves, I finished Bioshock 1 twice already but this is my first time playing the game's Remastered edition.

I'm still playing 7 days to die, but State of Decay could be good too. The gore seemed over t the top in that one, which is a turn-off for me. I don't mind some blood, but if every body explodes into 1000 pieces, that's overkill. Any options to turn that down some?

I killed that Doemenel chick and become terror of their house. They even sent assassins after me, but nonetheless I can enter their house, do some quests and become their biggest friend, even when it says that I have very bad reputation with their house!
And why the heck main villain simple not just kill me while I sleep, with hands of some of my companions, one, who, lets say, don't have "strong soul""!?
And things like this are all around! I understand it's just a game, but, cmon, do writers never read what they wrote and really cant see such incoincidences? This kind of writing in games is going on strong for long time already, maybe they should improve finally?
Sure, we can close our eyes one time, second, but if crap like that goes on from game to game, from year to year, it really start to affect (mine) enjoyment to play such games and especially the will to finish them!

I also very much enjoy being the only survivor, except for the traders in their bunkers. It turns out that I don't need any dialog at all to enjoy 100+ hours of exploration and running away

Still need to play the DLC, bought them, and once again never returned again to the game. My life has moved beyond Geralt. Sorry.

All of this is regretfully being neglected a lot in most games. They focus on visuals and gameplay (combat especially) but everything else is an afterthought. Shame really…
