Are you open to retro tabletop gaming?

I just started a new online campaign using the Fantasy Grounds VTT. The campaign takes place in Mystara so I planned on using the Rules Cyclopedia BECMI set. So we made characters and started.
During that adventure, I discovered that miniature rules and tactical combat were something I was apparently too used to to really get rid of, so my planned avoidance of using the tactical grid ended up changing to the same reliance I had on it in my 3e games, just without any tactical rules to back it up. Also, the characters completely lacked customization. All fighters/thieves/elves were the same as eachother. It was not delightful. Needless to say, it was not as fun as I had hoped.
After that adventure, we remade our characters in 3.5e and kept going in Mystara, just using the new ruleset. It was a fun way to start the game- and a great way to turn the first adventure into a unique 'prologue' type scenario, but in the end I prefer 3.5e and Pathfinder to those retro rules. They're just more interesting.
Oh, 4e is a hilarious joke. I disapprove >

EASILY my favorite system. So sad when the whole thing went tits-up and converted to D20.
I was unfamiliar with the (A)D&D concept of "1 rule system = many worlds", and/but what I was used to was the TDE concept of "1 system = 1 world".
In the end, the Star Wars Universe was to me "nothing but another (A)D&D world" or realm.
It would habe been logical to me - from my perspective, then - to find (A)D&D monsters in the Star Wars universe.
