Dungeons of Dredmor seemingly delayed :(
June 20th, 2011, 00:33
It would seem a major bug was found during the game's final bout of internal testing. Alas.
It has been a long and productive day deep in the Gaslamp Diggleworks, but we are now unfortunately fairly certain that the Big Announcement we have been promising must be postponed due to forces beyond our control. We hope to make it up to you by working tirelessly this weekend adding some really exciting features that we were worried we wouldn’t have time for. We’ll fill you in on them very soon.

There are now zero outstanding issues on our “must fix before ship” list. We’re going to play Dredmor internally for about 24 to 48 hours, and if we don’t find anything we desperately need to fix, we now have a Dungeons of Dredmor gold master build.Well, I guess they found something that they desperately need to fix after all.

I don't see any mention of a major bug, just that it has been delayed and they either don't want to be or can't be specific on the reason.

I was under the impression that this delay is not due to a major bug, but has something to do with the publishing side of things. They need to iron out the details of the release with their "distribution partners" or something. As Scrav said above, there is no mention of a critical bug in the blog entry.

Perhaps I jumped to the wrong conclusion. It's just seemed logical given that their 24-48 hour period of internal testing was followed by an unexplained delay. Maybe/hopefully it is indeed simply a matter of distribution

In one of the other DoD threads we have going on I mentioned that it probably had to do with distribution since I didn't encounter any major bugs. That is just a guess on my part, but the game has been playable for quite awhile.
They did mention adding a few things into the release and unless one of those things caused all kinds of hell (which I highly doubt) then the game is just delayed due to other factors other than the game. My best guess would be the distributors.

Looks like it's a distribution issue afterall: http://www.gaslampgames.com/blog/201…date/#comments

if we don’t find anything we desperately need to fixI understand how complex game programming is, but I really hate this mentality in software development (all software, not just games). It's one thing to find a bug later on that just didn't come up during testing. It's another to just say "it's not that big of a deal, we'll fix it later."

Well, nothing will ever be 100%. Everything in life falls within tolerances. From what I've seen of the demos though, it looks fairly bug-free.

Nothing is ever 100% because you can't foresee all outcomes. However, for the ones you do, you should be 100%, or you should not be shipping.

It's not naive to expect known problems to be fixed before releasing a product. It's called holding yourself to a standard.
