Default A quick question what happened to the ozone layer hole over Australia?

July 13th, 2011, 05:44
Has it been fixed or has it moved or is it still there?

I am struggling to find recent information on it or recent articles on it.

Australia is affected by the Antarctic hole - thats how large it is.
It's still there, but the 2006 environmental report of the Australian government showed that it was levelling off:
http://www.environment.gov.au/soe/20…r/2/index.html
The 2011 report is still being prepared, however you can see recent data here:
http://ozonewatch.gsfc.nasa.gov/
Which shows hopefully a beginning of a decline of the hole during the last couple of years. Overall I think the consensus is that the efforts on reducing CFC's etc. have been somewhat successful, but it will take many years for the ozone layer to recover completely. So you should still pack sunscreen when you go to Australia…

I read and heard that in Australia there is still an unsual high possibility of sin cancer - or how it is called.

I don't know whether this is because of the hole or because there's more sun in general.

SIN cancer!!??!! I think you mean SKIN cancer, and yes we have a very high rate of it here as the sun is both HOT and ever present in most of the country. It's tropical and sub-tropical climate mostly.

It would explain why your goverment is so incredibly morally conservative. "We have to ban porn to try and get a hold of this sin cancer epidemic!"
