The Darmstadt Windspiel, a German sailplane which set a 1934 world distance record, was silk covered and weighed less than its pilots.
Considering the size of many of the germans I saw last time I was there, I'm not sure what's so special about this.

And you don't know that "Darmstadt" literally translated means "Intestine town" or "Gut Town".
Like the German headquarter of Opel, a German daughter company of GM, is locvated in "Rüsselsheim", which means "Trunk-Home", with "Home" being a rendering of "Heim", which is an oldish name representing a small village.
Rüsselsheim is big, though.

Olympic bronze medalist John Russell was a member of the United States' last military delegation to equestrian at the Summer Olympics as well as its first civilian one?
Hmmm. Hmmm. HMMMM! The above reminds me of a short text about the number 39 in the "Penguin Dictionary of Curious and Interesting numbers", saying that 39 was the first uninteresting number, having no interesting mathematical properites. Which of course made in interesting, and by that having the property of at the same time being both interesting and uninteresting.
In later edition, they found something interesting to say about said number. And apparently the new uninteresting/intersting number is 51.
pibbur who is somewhat annoyed by the rather personal critizism in the today is thread (why did they have to revive it?), I quote: "Yeah, that's one of the stupidest threads I've seen here. Who does he think he are, the OP? "

After Lord Grosvenor's Rhadamanthus and John Bull won the Derby Stakes in 1790 and 1792, only three horses showed up in 1794 to run against and lose to his Daedalus in the smallest field in Derby history? I would assume that even fewer participated after one of the worst horses ever won in 1802 or when the Emilius family ruled the world in the thirties.

Rhadamantus … That's an interesting name, sadly very distorted by one of Blizzard's games …
Rhadamantus is possibly the name of the very first king from Crete … distorted through ancient Greek eyes.
I read in a book about ancient Minoan culture that this name was occupied by ancient Greek mythology and distorted so that the Minoan people from Crete actually lost their … "ancestor".

From Wikipedia:
FK Fyllingsdalen (football club, pibbur's addition) originally was named FK Varden by the board, even though a majority of the club members voted for FK Fyllingsdalen?
pibbur who, even if he's from the same Norwegian City as said football club, couldn't care less.
