Remember Hurricane Andrew that levelled half of Florida? Well, it sideswiped the Bahamas shortly before visiting the Sunshine State. Guess where dte had taken his blushing bride for the honeymoon?

Oops !

Well, storms make people cling together, don't they ?

Like winter does as well, I suppose.

But, to be fair, I'm argueing from an unmarried perspective. I've never been maried, and even looking for a girl-frioend is a bit dificult for a relatively shy man like me.

I'm much better at writing here.

Although I must say that I have a few very good real-life friends - unfortunately all of them are 20-30+ Kilometres from me away …

Congrats. I hope you go for relatively slow dances, the fast ones always seem to end up on funniest home video. Good luck.

Congratulations. I have proposed my own girlfriend a short while ago, and we will be getting married in early May. I am anxious as well. Every day I pray the Lord that it goes well.

Young people like you and I will try to make simple receptions with a limited number of guests, but then at the end, you realize that it would be unfair to exclude certain family members or close friends, and include a lot of people anyway. I am saving as much money as possible to make sure we have enough.

Congratulations from me as well.

I did get married shortly after we got our first child and it was a quick and dirty wedding at city hall. Both me and the misses have never dreamed of a big white wedding so it was all fine and well. That said I don't have anything against people wanting more. It just wasn't for us.

Don't worry about stuff going wrong…it will all be part of the fond memories you talk about later. For some reason, you really won't care that much, if you can remember details at all.

Hi purpleblob, sorry that I missed this thread earlier, but a big congratulations from me as well. Although I got married with Marjan in April 2010, it was only by law and not the real festivities. The reason of this was that we were planning to get married, but then bought a house together. It's just way easier to be married and buy a house in Belgium to get everything in order.
April 14th 2012 will be the day we get married in church and have the big celebrations too. A large reception for most people (around 130 people) and a dinner for the closest family members, aunts, uncles and very good friends. (around 50 people) So far we got the date and location settled for church and reception/diner. We also got to the honeymoon trip (Gran Canaria) reserved and the dress for the misses is also picked (not the most expensive one, but it isn't cheap too)

When we got married, the wife decided to allow her aunt to make the wedding cake. She had done several in the past, so this wasn't a stretch. About 10 minutes before time to cut the cake, the 3-tiered cake gave up the ghost and we ended up with a single-layered round cake with lots of icing missing The wife and I just thought it was funny, but her aunt almost passed out from the stess Once we convinced her that it wasn't bothering us, she seemed okay and was able to enjoy the festivities.

We were also dead broke, so we were just going to stay at a local hotel and have a honeymoon later. However, we got $700 at the reception and decided to go someplace last minute. We ended up in Nashville, TN; the land of country music, which I despise.

Also, the stress from the wedding caused my wife to start a certain monthly cycle, the day of the wedding. Needless to say, the honeymoon wasn't all it could be.

Still, we've been together almost 20 years, so the wedding night really isn't all that important in the long run. I'm sure you and hubby-to-be will be just fine. It's a long, wonderful road and you've just turned onto it.
