Annoying Blue Bar on Google
November 30th, 2011, 16:57
If anyone like myself uses google as their homepage or is just annoyed by that idiotic blue bar asking you to join google+ then do the following for Firefox 8:
Downloaded the adblockplus add-on then add this rule:
##DIV#mgmhppd
I found this on answers.com and it worked like a charm to get rid of that annoying P.O.S.
I like google because I can put up a background picture and I use it all the time, but they are really starting to annoy me with this google+ nonsense.
Speaking of google I was watching Dexter and the computer geek on that show said something about how google was done and there are better search engines out there now. Anyone have any recommendations because if they keep this crap up I'm jumping ship? Having a picture of Ultima 4 title shot is nice whenever I open my browser, but it's not worth it if they start to annoy me to death to join Google+.

Google knows it has to compete with facebook, so I suppose they are getting a bit desperate.

Thanks for the tip skav. I haven't encountered this issue yet with IE8, but I'm sure it's only a matter of time.

I guess I know why I've never gotten that problem before, since I already use adblock, noscript, and flashblock add ons for Firefox.

Google in all their infinite wisdom has circumvented the first addblock so that blue bar is back. However, the internet won't stand for such annoyances and has come up with another way to block the blue bar.
Follow the same directions and replace the old filter with this:
##div#gbprw
No more blue bar. If I have to do this one more time I'm switching homepages to ixquick or duckduckgo
Just learned about those because of google annoying the hell out of me. Great job there guys. That blue bar is a great advertisement for other search engines. I know I would have never known about those two if google never forced that blue bar onto my homepage.
