The good news is it only affects Multi-player.

Kinda ashamed to be a gamer with crap like this. Do any of these folks have a drop of self-esteem?? Seriously, if you're going to put stuff in aimed at the McLunch kidddies, price it accordingly at 2 bucks, lol.

Weren't Mass Effect games rated for Mature audience only? Somehow this sort of marketing would make much more sense if the targeted audience were preteens.
Priceless indeed

Yay! Now I can finally stare at Miranda's crotch outside viewing range of my tv. Or, conversely, I can finally stop jerking off in front of the tv.

Hasbro is producing Action Figures for SW:TOR as well. Darth Malagus is the first officially announced one.

*sighs* So now you can buy power in multiplayer? This is exactly where you should not be allowed to buy power, ever. It breaks the game, creates a chasm between those that can afford to spend 60€ on extras, and those who can't. I could live with cosmetic upgrades, in the form of new character skins and models, but not advantages.
They are slightly randomised during the registration and could include powerful new weapons and new characters. And not only that, they are randomized, so you basically have to hope for the best when you buy them. And if you don't get what you want, then hey, it's just another 20€ for a new action figure!

It's a sound business plan. It evolves the concepts of Magic the Gathering & Pokemon into more media.
Nevertheless, I hope it fails horribly so it isn't copied by other publishers… though few would even have the money and network to be able to pull this off like EA.

Enjoy or not.
It appears that ordering $150 worth of action figures won't get you access to all of the DLC BioWare is planning to release for Mass Effect 3, as Dark Horse has announced that exclusive "character boosters" and "the deadly Collector Assault Rifle" will be handed out to anyone who pre-orders The Art of the Mass Effect Universe from Barnes & Noble before February 20th. Amazon sells the book, too, but it looks like this is a B&N-only promotion:I wonder what will be next?
"This product contains a code that can be redeemed for bonus content for Mass Effect 3 multi-player including character boosters and the deadly Collector Assault Rifle to give you a leg up on the Reaper invasion.
Visit social.bioware.com/redeem for instructions on how to unlock your new upgrades.”
“The Collector Assault Rifle uses the same principles as a human assault rifle, but its organic components clearly set it apart. Its power source appears to be an internal organ with biotic capacitance; its ammunition resembles pellets of metallic enamel that strip shields off enemies with deadly efficiency.”
From 1/23/12 - 2/20/12, when you pre-order a copy of The Art of Mass Effect Universe, you will receive a code to download extra game content for Mass Effect 3. This will include the collector's rifle, among other cool content to beat out your opponents!
When you pre-order The Art of Mass Effect Universe (ISBN: 1595827684), you will get a unique code to download game extras from Bioware.com to use in the game Mass Effect 3. Offer is valid from January 23, 2012 and ends February 20, 2012 at 2:59 a.m. Eastern Time, while supplies last. This offer is only valid on pre-order purchases of the following item:
The Art of Mass Effect Universe (ISBN: 1595827684).
After you have placed your pre-order purchase of The Art of Mass Effect Universe, you will receive via email one (1) unique code for use to download extra game content no later than March 8th, 2012. Your code will be emailed to the email address associated with your Barnes & Noble account. Instructions for how to redeem extra game content on Bioware.com will be included in a follow-up email sent no later than March 8th, 2012. Shipping and handling charges may apply to your pre-order purchase of The Art of Mass Effect Universe.

For the love of Odin, what happened to selling games in BIG BOXES at the store? >.> Why do I need codes, internet access and all that shit in order to simply play a damn game?

This may sound cynical, but the more I read this, the more I smile at the fact that I just don't care for Mass Effect series.
