Here, an Apothecary closes after over 400 years of service. Sad.
And no, this isn't any joke.

In Cologne and elsewhere there have been quite a lot of restaurants and shops closed which had been there for several decades. It's a sad era, and I fear it has something to do with people not having that much money in their wallets anymore.

The downturn in the economy is taking it's toll on the 'mom and pop' businesses, unfortunately.

I'm in an 'up and coming' part of Brooklyn, yet I see a LOT of closed businesses. Our favorite burger place just closed in November. They originally said it was for renovations, but it appears to be totally gone now. I'm sure some of the closures we are seeing in our area are from the changing demographics, but quite a few of the boutiques have finally given in.
How are the breweries doing in Cologne? We started in Cologne on my honeymoon in 2007 and we had a great time at a brewery restaurant that was right next to the cathedral. Don't remember the exact name, but I remember a huge Kolsch sign on the front at the top.
