So, are there's anything new in this genre in development or planned to be kickstarted? For some reason scifi films are doing very well but the games and in particularly RPGs have so few deviations from the fantasy norm. Anything at all?

And there's also Insomnia- a post-apocalyptic "diesel punk" cRPG currently on KS: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects…elpunk-univers There's definitely some Sci-fi elements; it takes place in an old space station and the main storyline is apparently about a disease that causes people to
into mutants.
There's Frozen State; a post-apocalyptic RPG about an alien invasion: currently on Steam Early Access: http://store.steampowered.com/app/270270/
Also, there's a couple which have already been successfully funded on KS:

Most games today rip off either an old game or else a movie or tv franchise, like mass effect and star trek. The only sci rpg to get any success in the golden age was really fallout, and of course it's the postapoc subgenre. Far future rpgs in space would be a welcome change.

Nice Summary daveyd. Thanks for the reminders.
BTW, "Insomnia" has only 10 days left in its KICKSTARTER and is about $6,000 short of 70K. I hope they make it because it's the type of game I like to play.

Why there aren't more scifi RPGs?
Because you can't really make a big boobs scifi armor and 7of9 is one of a kind (Jeri Ryan said she couldn't breathe under her series outfit!).

Probably because fantasy fits easily within the genre. While sci fi seems to easily fit more into the FPS area of games. We have seen them done before especially with Japan made titles. I personally like a real good mix. Anything too futuristic to where everything looks like a rave is kind of corny to me. Besides they call FPS rpgs now anyway lol.

I forgot to mention Underrail
And of course CDPR's Cyberpunk 2077
There's also "Sol" but it seems to still be in early pre-production and considering the developer still needs to find programmer/s and artist/s, it may never get off the ground.

Outland 17 just recently went live over at the Square Enix Collective. If it gets enough support, Square Enix will help feature it through crowdfunding.
