Back when FPS games were really coming into their own, I couldn't play them because they made me motion sick. Now, very few do, Gothic 2 being the most recent offender. Mind you, I play very few FPS games. But I think with Gothic it was the speed or glide of the camera movements. When I compared it with, say, Thief or Deus Ex, the camera in Gothic seemed more floaty while the camera in those other games felt more fixed or secured to something, it's hard to put into words. But Gothic felt like I was in zero gravity or some such thing, the camera sort of lolled around rather than being on an axis pivot point. Makes me a bit queasy just thinking about it!

You know the very powerful and the very stupid have one thing in common. They don't alter their views to fit the facts, they alter the facts to fit their views, which can be uncomfortable if you happen to be one of the facts that needs altering.

The only spell of gaming motion sickness I ever experienced was when I tried to play Doom straight after an hour of playing Alone in the Dark. It never happened to me in any other combination, not even when playing AitD after Doom; the problem was probably linked to the fact that Doom had 'moving' backgrounds and a 'static' protagonist while AitD had a static backdrop and an moving protagonist.
A friend and clan mate of mine always experienced gaming motion sickness when forced to play a 3D game in low resolution.

I got sick just watching my son play Doom--I haven't ever tried to play a real shooter, both for that reason and more importantly, a certain lack of coordination on my part.
Daggerfall, as I've stated before, is one that really made me sick. I couldn't play for more than fifteen minutes at a time without having to go lay down. The first few minutes of Morrowind made me a bit queasy, but once I clambered out of the hold of the ship I seemed to be fine. Strangely Gothic 2 is fine for me, though I can't play it without turning up the gamma or I end up squinting at the screen until my eyeballs lock.

I loved the early first-person shooters and played them to death, but after a while I began getting dizzy, myself. With some games it happens, and with some it doesn't -- no idea why. If I ignore it and just keep playing, I get nauseous and will stay sick for hours.
If I had to guess, I'd say it's the way I focus. I tend to look ahead and fill in the gaps later, if you know what I mean. It's sort of like focusing on two things at once or concentrating a lot on your peripheral vision.

Oh, I wish I had a river I could skate away on. But it don't snow here. It stays pretty green. I'm going to make a lot of money, then I'm going to quit this crazy scene. -- [Joni Mitchell]

I got kind of sick while playing Dark Forces and outlaws, both games using the same engine.
I didn't get any sickness while playing Gothic 1.
I hadly played any 3D games since then, but I remember Arx evoking a sickness-like feeling when I played it inside the tunnels or what that was.
I just notice right now I hardly ever play 3D games.

I get motionsickness from most FPS games, but as long as I can run around in 3rd person it's usually okay.

Hmm. I've never gotten sick playing a game, actually. I play FPS games semi-regularly; or did before switching to Linux (and no sound), but they've never bothered me physically.
Now I have gotten sick with some strategy games and RPGs. Seeing a significant quest finished or major battle finished only to have the party die two seconds later to a pit trap or the power go out; or have my carefully crafted army out flanked and slaughtered in a strategy game will make me sick.

Oh, fun

That is a different, and possible worse, form of sickness, for sure.
Like making a backup of your character file for safe keeping, and finding you have transposed the overwrite location so that you have just replaced your level 75 character with the level 32 version…

After that, I played using a floppy. It made me so made I didn't go back for a few years; when I had to buy a 486 laptop to play most of my old games on because there was no DOS emulators.
He also messed up a game of Ultima 6, copying over my game so he could start one. I never have beaten that game because of that.

Thankfully, I have my old games back now. Everything works, except U7; and I just need to figure out how to shut down the Extended Memory Management in DOSBox for that. Nothing from windows yet though, except ADOM.

@azraelck: At least you could blame your brother, and possibly guilt him into something as a result.
I can only blame myself, and my aging brain cells.

Why don´t you use Exult for U7?

I do believe I'll still have problems with installing the acuall game, but you gotta try, right?
