Any thoughts about Kult:heretic kingdoms?
October 7th, 2013, 19:34
Does anybody remembers Kult:heretic kingdoms?I have this game in backlog since it came out(2004), and I thought this might be time to clear that out, so is game worth the time.Reviews where positive when it came out but I would prefer some more opinions.

I really enjoyed Kult, though I don't remember much about it. I believe you play a character that can enter the dream plane to get around obstacles that exist in the real world. Basically though, the game is an action crpg, somewhat slower paced than Sacred or Titan Quest, iirc. It's been a long time.

If ROA gets dull, I may load this up too, Nameless. If I still have it around…..

It was a decent enough game, albeit much too linear. The Dreamworld was a nice twist, but I thought they could have done more with it.

I wrote a review of the game back when it came out and I liked it. Don't know if that review is still available!!

Me too - you have to use Archive.org to see mine. Here is a snip:
Combat is fought in real-time. Left-clicking moves the character, and right-clicking attacks with the currently selected weapon or spell focus. The game suffers from balancing issues. Early on I found myself struggling to stay alive. During the middle things seemed pretty fair. But late in the game almost everything was a ‘one-hit' kill, with no damage to me.
The game flows very naturally and organically from beginning to end, with your main quest dictating action, but leaving you able to pursue side-quests and revisit old areas. You never feel lost, but there is plenty of exploration available. It will take you twenty or thirty hours to finish, depending on how much you tend to explore both worlds in all areas.
Heretic Kingdoms is a satisfying action-RPG with an interesting plot and dialog, a number of unique and innovative features, and varied combat and settings. It's enough to make a very enjoyable game. It is short, as RPG's go, but in a very slow period for RPG players it stands as one of the best.

Didn't play it, but from metacritic one negative player's review:
Now… Let's keep the important part only:
Dull, boring game in which the protagonist looks like she jumped out from a soft porn scene to a religion themed diablo anticlone.http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/he…?dist=negative

I still have it somewhere here, never played it so far … I found the ability to switch into "parallel worlds" very interesting, and unique.
The "attunement system" is fairly unique as well - at least I haven't heard about something similar yet.

heh, yeah I remember that. She wasn't on the cover for the original release, but she was when they released the game a second time. (It was something like a gold or legendary edition…but was actually more of a big patch correcting problems and finishing parts that weren't functional in the original game).
Oh, just found it on my old Stardock account. Gods: Lands of Infinity and it was the Special Edition.

Dungeon Siege 2: Broken World -- another game with especially cheesy cover art. Had nothing to do with the game.

I pirated it back in the day, but some years after release so I had the latest patch.
It was kind of cute to look at and not terrible, but not particularly good either. It's clearly in ARPG territory which is a shame because the lore seemed pretty interesting.
The game definitely lost its grip on me when I realized that shooting, fading into the… uhm… spirit world, running away, then shooting again takes all challenge out of the game. I deleted it shortly afterwards.
edit: also, attunement sounds kind of nifty, but it really isn't. What you'll want to do is equip every single item until you unlock its elemental property. There's not really a reason to stick with one specific kind of weapon, for instance.

Well tried it, after setting compatibility to win 98/me I finally managed to run it but game won't go more than 2 FPS. I tried every solution that I could find on web but no luck.Too bad after reading txa's review I really wanted to give it a try.Oh well I guess I will have to hope that GoG will release working version someday.
