Have you had a chance to see the game with more then 40 people on screen?
It uses the Hero engine (same as swtor and universally considered to be absolutly awful) so i am surprised to hear it running smoothly.
If the other hero engine mmo's are any indication i was expecting tiny maps with lots of phasing/instances, a very low player cap pr instance and a ton of loading screens all over everything.
lostforever already answered about them not using the Hero engine anymore.

I've been in ~50-60 players fights, all spamming skills with pretty FX in PvP. I've seen more than that (at guess over 100, it was a black sea of players) in server opening for the PvP as well. Run smoothly.

I'm mostly playing in 1st person too, not sure if that change something or not.

@azarhal

How is the draw distance like?

I am currently playing FF14 ARR and I love the fact that I can see (building and players) from one end of the zone to the other with my all my setting maxed. The fact that FF14 zones are gorgeous is an added bonus.

In what FF14 zones do you see players from one end of the zone to the other? All the ones I've been too didn't allow for that (because of buildings, trees or cliff/hills standing in the way).

As for ESO, I don't remember any negative about the draw distance. Although, I'm not bothered by it as much as some people are, so it sort of flow over my head.

I assume you are referring to:
"Developers tell that HeroEngine was used as a good tool to get some new ideas in the game. But it does not mean that it will be used in the final version of the game without any changes."
"Developers say that the main difference between ESO and other MMO games will be advanced social features. It is impossible to implement such changes without modifying engine."
That sounds to me like they are simply modifying the hero engine (which is expected) and not replacing it.

@azarhal
Thank you for the info Am slightly optimistic about this game now.

You can see other people and buildings in many of the ul'dah zones at a distance. its mostly deserts so not many things blocking the view.

View distance isn't an huge issue for me but I was pleasantly surprised by it in FF14. Most of the other MMOs I have played didn't have such distances.

I was taking this to mean a new engine

@lostforever

I didn't play much in Ul'dah. I played mostly in the pirates city areas, Aargh!

As for the engine, it doesn't feel like SWTOR (my only Hero Engine experience). Although, their will be instances, because the game is on a single mega server duh.

edit: By the way, the official website has an interactive map of Tamriel. The green zone in the middle is Cyrodiil (and all seamless, the other are zones are split as they are in the game).

Considering the context of the sentence thats kinda like saying peeing on your couch makes it unique since no other couch will have that same stain and smell combination
A modified hero engine will be unique since no other verson have those exact same modifications but it is still the hero engine.
I could be wrong ofc but thats how i interpreted it anyway

That map has me pretty hyped to explore some of Tamriel. I think I'm going to be an Argonian. Can't wait until 6 o'clock tonight when the beta starts.

Just remember that it is beta: previous tests had bugs, general annoyance and placeholders. Also, at 6pm the servers might act up a bit because everyone is trying to log at the same time.

I am just anxious to see what it looks like. Exploring parts of Black Marsh is going to be interesting. I hope I'm able to run it on max settings.

You won't be able to see Black Marsh proper in this beta test, they limited the zones we have access to. There are Argonians settlements in the zones available though (with quests, funky speech pattern and names like in single-player TES games).

No Black Marsh at all? Huh, that's a bummer. Oh well. Still pretty excited to see how the game is coming along!

That's the most annoying part…that and waiting for the next beta.

How many betas have you been in for ESO, azarhal? And how far are they spaced apart?

@Fluent

Let see, this would be my 7th or 8th beta. Some were 3 hours stress tests though. There was one beta in mid-October where I wasn't invited to as well. As for occurrence, it really depends. I just got 2 months without beta, but it was much more active before that. I actually though that the beta pace was picking up after September, but the opposite happened. So I have no idea what they are planning right now.

We could have one in two-three weeks or none before January (because of the holidays). It also depends if they are going to address feedbacks or not.

Good to know, azarhal. Thanks.

I made sure to leave a lot of feedback with them, so maybe they will see that and invite me back for more. Although, at this point, I just want to get my hands on the final game and play through it! It's going to be a long winter
