My mic sounds muffled.
December 28th, 2013, 00:49
Hello.
I'm not sure what happened. My mic was working perfectly yesterday, today, the thing sounds terrible. Muffled and distorted.
I'm using a set of Turtle Beach X11s to record gameplay footage and stuff with.
The only changes I've made to my computer have been to download Windows XP Mode (which I later uninstalled). Not really sure what else I could have done to cause this.
I'm using Windows 7 64-bit. I have a SoundBlaster Recon 3d soundcard. The laptop is an Alienware M17X R4.
Any ideas?

Don't use headphones so I'm not sure.
When trouble shooting though i usually do it in this order.
!. make sure there plugged in properly.
2. restart pc ( you'd be suprised how often this fixes stuff)
3. Google it.
4. Check all software settings for sound card and headphones.
5. Re-install drivers.
6. revert to a restore point.
beyond that wouldn't know without actually looking at it.

I've done all that except reverting to a restore point. I really don't want to do that, but I guess I may have no choice.
Any other ideas?

Well, I figured out what it was. The cord was frayed. I couldn't tell because the cord itself would wrap around really tightly and it was impossible to unravel it completely. Went to try to unravel it today and the cord ripped completely. So I'm out of a headset.
Hmm. Anyone have a spare USB headset they want to let go for cheap?

Sorry like I said I don't have any experience with headphones really, I suppose you could barrow a pair from a friend to make sure the problem isn't with your headphones ….
or hook them to a console if they work with them just to make sure they work.
