I would recommend the https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/notebooks/optimusV-15/

Pcspecialist is where I bought my laptop from and I'm very happy with it.

Actually any current dual-core intel with 8GB RAM and an Intel HD 5000 graphics can run everything on that list pretty well - at least well enough for the screen size at decent resolution.

Sorry for crashing the Intel let's turn PC into SoC party, but I can't recommend any laptop without at least nVidia 740M inside - for gaming.

That Pladio's laptop is impressive!

If you want to spend a LOT MORE for a LOT LESS - then by all means, go laptop. I'm sure the convenience will stand out when trying to enjoy 15 FPS

Anyway, the games you mention aren't very demanding, except EQ2 and Witcher 2 - both of which would require a relatively beefy laptop to run with good performance.

EQ2 is a dog pretty much no matter what you have, though, as the engine sucks in a very, very big way.

But if you want to play "modern" games, laptops just can't cut it, sorry. Unless you don't mind low/medium settings with crappy frame rates.

This is an important thing to remember - and you should ask yourself if you REALLY need a laptop? You could build a pretty decent desktop system with a 24" monitor and solid mouse/keyboard for that price … and depending on how you do it might have enough left for a Nexus 7 / Kindle Fire HDX / iPad Mini to take care of the various 'away from home' stuff. Just a thought.

By the way, if the Optimus V gets too expensive after you add other options, this one isn't bad at all.

Thanks guys for the advice.

I have a dedicated gaming PC and a laptop is to supplement that when I am travelling for work etc.

Pladio, thanks for the PCS link.

Optimus V is out of my league and budget for a supplement laptop. I am looking at the cosmos 2 and here is the spec I am looking at now,

Cosmos Series: 15.6" Matte Full HD LED Widescreen (1920x1080)
Intel® Core™i5 Dual Core Mobile Processor i5-4210M (2.60GHz) 3MB
8GB KINGSTON SODIMM DDR3 1600MHz (1 x 8GB)
NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 850M - 2.0GB DDR3 Video RAM - DirectX® 11
500GB SERIAL ATA II 2.5" HARD DRIVE WITH 8MB CACHE (5,400rpm)
Genuine Windows 8.1 64 Bit - inc DVD & Licence (£79)

Its coming to £661, still over my budget What can I skimp to get it down?
I would really want an SSD but to get 240GB instead of that 500HD, they want another £60

I can play games like bioshock, far cry 3 on the above spec with medium setting and get FPS ove r40?

If you still have your own OS disk you could use that one.

I'm not an expert on systems requirements, but I would think it should run fine on medium.

This is just based on the requirements I found on :
http://www.systemrequirementslab.com…y-3/11465/?p=r

CPU: Intel Core i3-530/AMD Phenom II X2 565 or equivalent quad-core
CPU Speed: Info
RAM: 4 GB
Video Card: Nvidia GTX 480/AMD Radeon HD 5770 or equivalent 1024MB DirectX 11 card
Sound Card: Yes

http://www.systemrequirementslab.com…ock/10637/?p=r
CPU: Core 2 Duo or better
RAM: 2 GB
OS: Windows XP/Vista
Video Card: DX9: Direct X 9.0c compliant video card with 512MB RAM (NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GT or better)
Sound Card: Yes
Free Disk Space: 8 GB

You could wait one or two months to save up £60 ?

And some of these vouchers work sometimes, so you can take £15 off the laptop:
This one seems to work right now : GG789

Ah thanks for the voucher codes.

Its not that I don't have the money its more like I don't want to spend more than £600 for a "second" PC

There's a happy medium here. I have a rig but I find I game much more on my MBA. If you're bleeding edge, no it won't cut it. But those of us playing Skyrim, Diablo3, the first Witcher, even D:OS are doing great even on an Intel 5000. I don't care much for playing Crysis so it suits me fine. And because I use my laptop fr everything else, its nice to have an everything computer

I recently bought an ASUS i5-4200U with 6GB RAM refurbished for $480 (so… 280 pounds?). It's fast for applications, but its lack of a dedicated video card means it's not great for 3D games. But what I do is, when on the road, I play games that it can run great… strategy games. Games like Europa Universalis 4, Crusader Kings 2, Tropico 4, etc. run great since they require more computational than 3d power. Maybe that's an option, to play these type of games instead of 3d games?

I would recommend this > http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/system/F…aming_Notebook

For $1100, that thing is a beast. You will be able to play all the games you want at high framerates and nice settings with this laptop.

Good luck!

The only game laptop I would buy is one without fans. I had a 1000€ alienware gaming pc but it was so noisy during gameplay that I had to sell it.

But its totally understandable. Its very hard if not impossible to create noiseless cooling solution for laptop when using high performance graphics cards. To only option is to run the tiny laptop fans in very high speeds and that means noise.

If portable gaming device is needed I would buy 3ds xl or vita slim.

Or wiiu. Just take the device, power cord and gamepad with you. You dont need anything else. You dont need tv since you can play all the games through the gamepad. Also wiiu is much cheaper, energy efficient and noiseless. And it has some popular pc/console games too like i.e assasins creed, resident evil, splinter cell, deus ex or call of duty. And virtual console that offers i.e gba games and nintendo64 games in future.

I know people who have played with wiiu on train. Its that small and portable.

Did you ever try using headphones? I actually find headphones preferable to speakers, and they have the side-effect of blocking out noise.

I studied all possible ways to figure out how to reduce the noise but found no answer. Other people who had bought this gaming laptop also complained about the noise. I kind of feel sorry for the person to whom I sold it.

My Alienware M17x R4 is not noisy at all. Occasionally you will hear the fan kick in for a little bit, but it's not very intrusive at all.

I couldn't recommend my laptop more to anyone who wants a great gaming machine. Mine is still going strong after almost 2 years and still plays anything I throw at it on max settings. Been a joy to use so far, but it was a bit pricey so I don't think I'd recommend it to anyone on a budget.

If price isn't an issue, buy a top of the line Alienware. You will love it.

Here is a pretty decent laptop that I found with dedicated graphics at a very reasonable price:

http://www.toshiba.co.uk/laptops/sat…pro-c50-a-1k9/

Remember that the hard drive on this one is 7200 rpm (compared to the standard 5400) which does make a large difference in access times.

The cheapest that I found is on Amazon for £488 (but temporarly out of stock), that you can find elsewhere for about £520:

Final note: if you want anything cheaper with decent processor and graphics, then go with laptops with AMD A10 processors (with onboard graphics, which are very competent) - mostly Lenovo.
