Speedup Patch
July 13th, 2014, 20:28
Basic gist of this is even with the portals i find myself running around half the map a lot (especially in the forest) and don't really enjoy that so I use this patch to speed up the game clock temporarily. Basically, most animations run faster so you can get to the far side of the map faster.
I heard there are some mods that might do this on larian forum but suspect they impact the game more substantially. Since this works well for me and doesn't influence gameplay, I thought I'd share. I've been using my speedup patch for over a decade (since about the second Pool of Radiance) and it works with probably 85%+ of games in some way without issues. Didn't test with multiplayer so I'd recommend not using it in a coop game.
Basic usage: It monitors the numpad / * - keys and adjusts clock based on key. / = Reset Speed, * = Faster, - = Slower (not slower than 1x). The registry can be edited to remap the keys if you like (see the readme).
So normally I use * to speed up by pressing several times (helps to hold for about 1 second per press) and then use / to reset back to normal (again hold for a second) when I arrive at destination.
File goes in the folder where the EXE is located. In this case the "Shipping" folder under the Divinity - Original Sin folder.

Well, this is useful. Thanks. Does it also effect the speed in turn based combat? I sometimes find the enemy AI to be on the slow side in taking their turn.

It does speed up turn based combat. Sometimes I use it if there are a lot of enemies or they are "stuck" which occasionally happens. Obviously it does not impact the actual combat to my knowledge.
I also understand the Action stuff but frankly I have other things to do with my time these days than watch updates. This game is not nearly as bad as others but there are times it is useful to speed up time.

Very ingenious little patch.
