hmm… don't quote me on what I said, I thought I remembered the first one wasn't turn based, but watching some videos it does look turn based so *shrug*. Still, I do remember when I started playing HN2 I felt it was an improvement over the first one, just don't remember exactly why.
As a remake it takes the entire combat system from the first game and chucks it in a bin, replacing it with the more enjoyable combat system seen in later installements.

Sorry I'm on Raven's Cry having a blast. Can't possibly imagine playing anything at the same time, it's one of those moments when something gets under your skin so deep you can't shake it off.
I promise when I'm done with RC, I'll do Neptunia next. When will that happen I honestly don't know. I bought the game.

After playing Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth1 a few hours I can recommend it:
++ challenging turn based combat, with many skills and gear upgrades
++ dungeons can be adjusted, new locations can be unlocked
++ the game doesn't take itself too seriously
++ the female main characters are funny, hilarious & charming and have a great friendship
++ game is full of references that only seasoned gamers will get
++ funny dialogs
++ challenging boss fights
++ entertaining story
- - some grinding
- - respawning
- - some recycled maps
- - playing with keyboard and mouse is a challenge, but can be learned
If you want to play a serious RPG look elsewhere, but if you like challenging fights, hilarious charming characters and lots of humor this could be a game for you!

Posted on it's Steam forum that it needs to be patched, and also thumbed the game down because of the horrible UI.
It doesn't mean the game is bad, it's just a horrible port. Avoid till it's patched or buy on consoles.
It's such a shame though, the game promises lots and lots of humor:

Main tips for mouse and keyboard play:
- don't play with inverted mouse control
- use w a s d to move
- use cursor keys to select targets
- use 'o' in the main menu to equip your characters, save, load, etc.
- always use the mouse for combat actions (-> click on the controller key-symbols)
- use left mouse click in dialogs to get the next sentence
