Default changing default keybindings

May 19th, 2015, 13:33
At the moment the default keybindings are making combat encounters very difficult for me. I have changed some but I couldn't find ideal bindings that I can live with. There are just to many possible combat actions. Riposte, rolling and jumping, evasion, fast und strong style, signs, changing signs…..

Do you use the default settings or did you change them. If you did how did you change them? I'm pretty sure somebody did find better solutions than me!

Never considered getting a xbox controller? Much better for third person games than mouse/keyb ever will be (unless it's a game that was designed from ground and up to be played with a mouse).

You also get force feedback. It's actually not as gimmicky as it may seem, it's a nice way to know that e.g an effect is wearing off and similar things.

Yeah I have one but I did not try it. Will do when I'm back from work, but I don't think its ideal for me. If possible I would prefer mouse and keyboard over controller.

I read over in the GOG Forum, that someone tried with controller and he had problems adjusting the camera.

That's odd, i never had a problem adjusting the camera. It takes a while to adjust to a controller though, if you're not used to it.

But Imo it's a good thing to get used to / good at, if you're the least interested in third person RPG's, really worth the trouble.

Don't listen to vurt, there is nothing wrong with keyboard+mouse for 3rd person games. I've been playing them since the mid-90s with a keyboard and mouse and I really don't see what the fuss is all about.

I suggest leaving these attack controls to their default and learning to use them:
Fast style = fast left mouse clicking
Strong style = hold left mouse button
Parry/Riposte = right mouse clicking (fast tap before enemy attack to riposte, you have to practice it, it's timing based)
Rolls = WASD+space
Use selected sign = Q
Tab (or numbered keys) = select sign, just memorize it

I suggest changing the following:
Throwing bombs = default is mouse middle button which sucks because you have to aim with the mouse at the same time (it was just as crappy in TW2), I suggest rebinding to a key near WASD that you can keep pressed easily.
Dodging (step away) = I always rebind that to my mouse button 4 in every games I play.

Can't answer your question; but with regards to vurt; when a game plays better with a controller on the pc than with kb/m; then I shouldn't be buying it for the pc; and since I only play games on the pc it means I shouldn't be buying the game. Sounds like, from what you are saying, i should stop buying cdprojek games.

I don't see any logic in that at all. If a game plays and looks better on PC (which is usualy the case) then buy the game for PC. If the controlls are better with a controller (almost always the case for third person games) - use a controller.

And yes, if you've never used a controller it does take a bit of time to get used to it. If you don't want to use a controller for that simple reason, fine, but then don't start making comparisons with something you didn't even try.
