I bought this on a whim due to this news bit, so thanks
Seems ok, but it's definitely from another era. In the very first mission, I'm trying to figure out if the fact that I can't actually shoot is supposed to be the case - or if I'm just a moron.

Looks impressive, but it's awfully cheap for something that claims to be so much.
Be sure to give your impressions after you've spent a little more time with it. I'm definitely curious about it.

I'll likely play around with it later today, and I'll report back with my findings

Well, at this time we are fighting with some nasty, game breaking bugs, and general optimization. That's why the game isn't out yet on Steam EA, but our guys are doing their best to make the game fully playable soon.
Btw, those new websites will be RPG centric too, or something completely different?

Well, I found out why I couldn't fire anything. The default player profile is apparently bugged and doesn't have a ship that can do much of anything. So you have to make a new profile and pick a ship, etc.
I guess that kinda tells us something about the state of the game
That said, from my time with the game - it's actually pretty involved. I'm not seeing much in the way of this supposed HD upgrade - but I'd say it's not an ugly game. It has as lot of systems to explore, and it seems you can outfit your ship in a lot of ways. That's pretty cool. I do remember playing the original version back at release and I also remember thinking it had potential, but didn't quite make it all the way. This version is supposed to be significantly updated when it comes to story and a few other things, so there might be something here.
If you're looking for a Freelancer type game - and you can forgive some quirky stuff - this game might not be a bad choice. But I don't think I'll have the time to dive into it for a while.
