Hmmm… AJ makes a slightly agitated impression in that video or is it just me imagining things?

Sorry for returning, I wouldn't usually, but he actually made a compilation on youtube on each lockup/crash:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eOUOzL04Byg
What's interesting he added some bits about Destiny DLC.
For those who don't know, Destiny was the most overhyped game last year.
And since I broke my promise, I'm also adding Total Biscuit's vid too:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bFBd5GgGkMs
Nothing much new or dramatical like in Joe's vid there, but for those who want to keep informed, a nice recap.

Kataku article on the shennanigans:
Warner Bros Suspends Arkham Knight PC Sales until the game’s technical woes can be addressed.
Lol, plain embarrassing!

Well the rumors going around is that early buyers will soon be offered a free WB game, or the season pass as an apology. Also they are patching the PC game.

Rocksteady is leading our team of developers and partners as we work on the PC performance issues that players have been encountering. The work is significant and while we are making good progress on improving performance, it will take some time to ensure that we get the right fixes in place. It's a start but I won't forgive them anytime soon.
Below is the list of the key areas where we are dedicating our resources to improve the experience for our loyal fans:
- Support for frame rates above 30FPS in the graphics settings menu
- Fix for low resolution texture bug
- Improve overall performance and framerate hitches
- Add more options to the graphics settings menu
- Improvements to hard drive streaming and hitches
- Address full screen rendering bug on gaming laptop
- Improvements to system memory and VRAM usage
- NVIDIA SLI bug fixes
- Enabling AMD Crossfire
- NVIDIA and AMD updated drivers
While we work on improving performance, we will also continue to make interim patches available to address issues for those still playing the game on PC. The first patch is being released now and the updates include:
- Fixed a crash that was happening for some users when exiting the game
- Fixed a bug which disabled rain effects and ambient occlusion. We are actively looking into fixing other bugs to improve this further
- Corrected an issue that was causing Steam to re-download the game when verifying the integrity of the game cache through the Steam client
- Fixed a bug that caused the game to crash when turning off Motion Blur in BmSystemSettings.ini. A future patch will enable this in the graphics settings menu

I got this from a GPU card voucher my brother gave me. I'm not really a big fan of these games, so I didn't expect much.
But it really does run well on my rig with everything on. The only exception is when the screen is full of "Nvidia Gameworks" effects - where it bogs down significantly, but I'd expect nothing else.
I would never have noticed the missing AO - but I did find it somewhat odd that they hadn't included rain textures - as that's been the norm for a while.
But, truly, if I hadn't heard about this debacle - I would have considered it a fine Batman game.
I'm afraid this is the norm with AAA games - we simply don't always notice what we've been missing

The only upside I see is that this is being trashed fairly well in reviews … in years past it would have still had a 95% meta-score based on the console versions. Glad I skipped it.

Warner Brothers knew months before release about the bad state of the PC version

Doesn't make much sense that they even released it considering they would go through the trouble of pulling the game off the market to rework it. I guess they decided to roll the dice and see if they could get away with it.
I'm not ready to throw WB under the bus though. They've owned up to it and are trying to fix the mess. A lot of publishers would have just walked away from it.

Here I was thinking that PC gaming was finally getting just a little bit of the respect it deserves based on many recent hits, but WB don't think it's worth bothering about, I guess.
I'll make a note of that.
Their reaction smells like measured PR from a massive outcry, rather than "respectful" admission of not giving a shit.

Of course it might still suck anyways.

Of course, not all investors are smart enough to care about long term reputation, but still.
So, I don't see how this reflects positively on them, except that they're smart about how they don't give a shit.
But to each his own

This is all assuming the article in question isn't bullshit, obviously.

To be honest, I really don't care either way. I just want the final product to be good because I planned on playing the entire series.

But things like this tend to stick to companies for a while.
We can't really know, though, so I guess it's down to how we perceive their response. It's not impossible that I'm a bit sceptical when it comes to the positive intentions of big companies like WB

I got this for free - and I only had a curiousity about it. I actually thought it was developed using Unreal Engine 4, and I wanted to check out what they could do with that for a modern PC game.
Turns out it's 3.5, so I didn't even get that.
However, it does seem like a pretty good game - if you look past these issues.

Yeah, I was pretty surprised when I looked it up and saw that AK only uses the Unreal 3 engine. I have to say though, it's impressive what they managed to squeeze out of that decade-old tech.
Afaik, there still hasn't been a major release yet that uses the Unreal 4 engine.
