I'd say the future is brighter, but I don't actually know much about the success of Conan - and if the revamp isn't good, it probably won't help much either way

Whats going on with you, anyway? I assume you left the watch because you met a special someone and had to cut down your internet use in an effort to appear more normal. So, she fucked off with an ex and you're back trying to powerlevel your account to 15000 posts?I left the Watch because I couldn't justify the time I was spending posting here - especially bickering for no tangibly useful reasons

I still probably can't - but I missed the place, and I guess I need an outlet.
Also, I wasn't in love with the direction the site was headed in, but that's a minor reason. But I'm happy to see some of the old gang, at least! Including SirJames the Abrasive Knight!
Yeah, my "special someone" left - but for slightly different reasons. Something about wanting me more than I wanted her.

This Secret World revamp started a while back, there was no content updates in 2016 since early Spring.
The revamp project probably happened around the time they decided to make Conan Exile. They were browsing Steam to see what was selling and in cheap to make to find out how to basically get out of another imminent bankruptcy (they had to borrow money to pay wages last year).
*The answer was survival games and action RPGs, I bet.
edit: Another interview (with Massively).

I really hope they've done something about cooperative quest presentation. SWtOR handled this very well - but it was quite terrible in Secret World.
Nothing is worse than having to stand around waiting for party members to finally read/listen to the quest exposition. It ruined the rhythm of the game.

Going by the Massively interview, they have done something: We are updating most aspects of the main story missions to be doable with friends. A few instances with stories crafted specifically for solo play will still require you to play those on your own.

So, when you're 3-4 guys playing - it's a major pain to wait until the inevitably "slow dude" finally gets through the quest exposition.

Thank you for your submission! Unfortunately, it has been removed for the following reason(s):
Not following Reddit's rules.
Inciting conflict.

The best way to troll them, if I were so inclined, would be to make another "This view is breathtaking!" empty screenshot of stars and start pulling in the upvotes. Which makes me wonder how many of the "happy" posts are genuine and not plausible deniability of sarcasm. You really can't tell if I like my rubbish screenshot, but everyone knows the "right" thing to say to get upvoted. Things are getting more fake.
Pretty soon we're all going to be 100% fake smiles whose first priority in making a post is getting a better average post rating. Where does it end? NewDArt the 4.5 star poster who goes around being intentionally helpful and positive while feeling validated and vastly superior to SirJames the 1.8 star troll who constantly challenges everything and doesn't understand that what was once discussion and debate is now inciting conflict?
Just enjoy things being shit cos its probably only going to get worse.

As in, its ability to tolerate all kinds of nuts and its hands-off approach to moderation.

Certainly, I don't see myself putting up much of a fake smile anywhere - except when I'm keeping myself from slaughtering that old lady holding up the line when I'm shopping

More info about SWL from a stream yesterday.
Going by the mention of moving content, setting the story as starting in 2017 (instead of 2012 in the orignal) and some lore changes. I get the feeling a few things they introduced in the least two years will be introduced way earlier. Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Confirmation this will stay as a barbie doll simulator with it's 6k cloth pieces.Yeah! I love playing dress up in TSW.
edit: Jeez, the comments in that thread. It's like TSW was a refuge for MMORPG grognards who can't stand anything but tab-targetting.

Hmm, I'm not sure what to think.
Some of it sounds good, and other things sound like needless dumbing down or streamlining.
I wonder if it's about time for another NGE (SWG)

Another interview/preview.
That one actually describe some of the changes. Like the ability wheel is now split into pages for each weapons or how combat will works (pretty standard action game, well beside each mouse button being a different weapon).
Feeding gear to make it stronger. Someone played Two World.

Why are they wasting time on this? Get your asses out of MMO's and start working on new Longest Journey.

And they got their asses out of MMOs, Secret World Legends is being promoted as a co-op action RPG, not a MMO. The other Funcom MMOs are in maintenance mode now. Oh and Funcom released two no MMO games based on TSW IP (The Park and Hide & Shriek).

I don't know if I'm optimistic or pessimistic about this. So it's wait and see.
Regarding some earlier comments about the risk of MMO's being shut down by CEO's. How often has that happened? I've played WOW, LOTRO (still playing LOTRO) SWTOR, TSW and the Guild Wars games. They're still here. TSW as we know it will not continue, but as far as I know you will still be able to play it (correct me if I'm wrong). So that scenario doesn't bother me at all. If I like a game, this won't stop me from playing it.
pibbur who thinks that if you don't like MMO's, then MMO's are not for you.
PS: Similar arguments apply to Steam. It may go down some day, but it's been with us for a looooong time, and it's not likely to go down any time soon. In the meantime, I've played a lot of fun games there. So I don't worry. DS.
PPS: I do realize that many MMOs', also some of the ones I've played, will eventually die. But I don't see that as a problem. I've had fun with them in the meantime. And for the record, for thecnical reasons, I don't expect to be able to play every SP game I've bought, many years after relase, either. DS.

TSW as is currently running will have its own server, but will be in maintenance mode (i.e. no more content update). Age of Conan and Anarchy Online were already announced to be put in that mode, it's usually seen as a slow painful death though.
As for how often MMOs have been shutdown, there is a lot in the 2014-2016 period (like 30), a mix of recent stuff that didn't pan out (mostly F2P) and older games that lost most of their player base or are judged to not be worth the cost (i.e. it would cost too much to update them). It's a good thing though, the market was getting over-saturated with MMOs.

I really enjoyed TSW and stopped playing for various reasons - but got a lot out of it. Think I will replay again when this comes out. Once of my favorite MMO's.

I'm going to have to give this another try. I didn't see the appeal, but to be fair I didn't play very long.
The combat felt awkward and clunky to me, and I didn't like the mission structure either. It made me feel like I was just going through a checklist.
Does it get significantly better after Kingsmouth?

I'd say if you didn't care for the story or atmosphere in Kingsmouth, there's little chance you'll like much after it.
I guess I'll wait for Legends and see if I like that better.
