I'm assuming it's the line that reads "HairWorksAALevel=8"? I changed it to 4 to see what effect it has. Maybe I'll try 2 as well.
Interestingly enough, I see there's a line that reads "UberSampling=0" I wonder if the devs are planning to implement that with a patch at some point.

I've got it at 2 - which is where it had the most impact.
They'll probably add a bunch of stuff in a future Enhanced Edition

Well, one can hope.

Do you still need to set the ini file to readonly, so that the game doesn't overwrite it? And can you still change the in-game settings after you do?

AFAIK, the setting in question only changes if the game is patched or you mess around with the Hairworks setting in-game.

My Gigabyte 770 is overclocked to 780 speeds and paired with a high-end system, and even on High settings I have Hairworks activated for Geralt only.
There's not much difference between High and Ultra though, so I chose to go with High and be able to have all the post-processing effects enabled.

I like the hairworks more than I expected to also.
At 1920x1080 using a 980m (not overclocked), I get mid 40s fps with everything on Ultra and hairworks on. I haven't dug into the ini file yet for tweaking but I did install the Witcher specific video drivers.
Not bad for a laptop I think.

I really don't think you're getting that high of a framerate on Ultra with a 980m. The 980m is really fast for a mobile GPU, but it's still only 60% to 75% as fast as a desktop 980 depending on the game.

That's what Fraps is telling me. It's smooth for sure, I haven't had a slowdown or pause yet.
Also, the first set of numbers on that page is unplugged. The second set are plugged in numbers.

I'm assuming you're playing without Hairworks and HBAO. Otherwise, I can't see you getting 30-40 fps on Ultra with a 770.
Shadows = high
Amount of NPC = low
Motion blur, bloom = off
I was averaging 35 FPS most of the time.
