Default progression

June 19th, 2015, 06:19
Maybe I never truly experienced what I am looking for, or maybe I did but it was long ago it has become jaded.

I want what I get out a RPG that I get out of some music. Take pink floyds "Set the control for the heart of the Sun" or anything in progressive trance that Scott Stubbs did, or Opeth's CD "My Arms Your Hearse".

No matter what musical taste you have you can find progression or evolution with some bands.

I think TW3 broke a lot of ground in what can be done in a open world game or in a RPG game. I am also a huge fan of the Witcher games. Though now that it has been a few weeks since I finished the game I want something more. I was excited for expansions etc….

What I really want is a story. A real story that could take me months to play and think about what I am doing. I don't want loot every where, I don't need a ton of combat. I don't want it handed it to me, I want to have to go to maybe 6 different places and talk to 15 different people to find out there is a Den in X location that has whatever.

I don't want talk of inventory systems, because all I really have is a sword, armor, and a bow. Ever 3 minutes I am not finding the next best thing.

I want true adventure unfolding before my very finger tips. Not only that I want it to be in a slow enjoyable way. It has been 31 years of playing RPG's now I want to feel something I have never felt before, completeness from a game.

I don't need 1000 books in the game explain lore if I choice to read them all. Twenty 25 well hidden ones would do. I don't need craft a the first urinal, but if it took weeks to find out how to craft a very few items .

I want the experience to be Grande for once on a stage that may never be met. I really want less to bring me more. How about instead of having 20 people making up loot we have 2 doing loot and 18 of them a making cities where everyone is alive.

How about not worrying about DLC or Multi player but a game that has true progression.

Side note as I have sip of a rum and coke and I am not a huge Bioware fan. Dragons age Origins had something there. If only for a brief second…

Anyways when I get up in the morning I will most likely have a ton of editing to this …

Several Ultima games seems to fit your description and to a certain degree also PS:T.

Can't think of any newer games, though.

Pibbur who thinks he should. Think of newer games.

Celtic that thinks that is the problem, he started with Ultima 3 in 1984.

You might be interested in playing some adventure games.
No or very little combat and great stories to immerse yourself in.

Sounds like a great game to play when I retire. Unfortunately, I don't see it ever happening. Even with a great 40 hour game only about a quarter of people stick with it to the end.

Egosoft's X games can last a very, very long time but the story isn't much. It can be light on combat if you play it that way.

Skyrim can keep people busy for hundreds of hours but a lot of that is really just tinkering around with mods.

Getting attacked by the grass and the floor so early in your gaming life… that must have been traumatic. I think I understand you better now.

Skyrim also has quite a bit of filler in it too. Learned that trying to do all of the stuff in it recently. After about 100 hours, I was pretty sated on the whole experience, and just decided to finish the civil war and main quest, then called it a day. Still a lot of fun, but after a while it just felt like it was time to hang it up and move on to a new game.
