Default Java Master of Orion - Galactic Council essentially done

November 15th, 2015, 22:52
Java Master of Orion is a two-man (Ray Fowler and an artist) effort to bring back the original Master of Orion by updating the art and maintaining the original gameplay.

From the homepage of Java MoO:

Code: Galactic Council essentially done

I’ve spent the last two weeks coding up all of the logic for the Galactic Council… when they meet, the order and tallying of the votes, the selection of the leader, declaring final war, and empires being happy or upset if you did or did not vote for them.

In addition, I’ve developed a workable UI that goes through the voting process very much like the original game. I scavenged a lot of graphics from the original game to serve as placeholders until the new artwork is done, so it’s not worth wasting a screenshot on.

However, below is an example of the Alkari very upset that I did not vote for them! All that’s really left of the council vote is a few minor touchups in the code and the eventual incorporate of new artwork.

I refuse to install Java. Flash and Java are among the top targets for exploits on Windows systems so I do not have either installed. I do have one Java app that I use but run it in a Linux VM sandboxed away from my system. I could try to run it in that but I couldn't find if it was going to be cross platform compatible.

My problem with Java is more about performance and the fact that I've never played an elaborate game made in Java that didn't feel clunky as hell.

Also, as a rule, I try to avoid games that require massive amounts of libraries that aren't already a part of Windows.
