Star Wars - New Open-World RPG?

Remember - 10 years of EA sanctioned games.

I can't see this being a good rpg in any way.
It might still end up being a decent game, but I don't have much hope for it.

I'd imagine it will be something like the Batman games or Dishonored, games that have "upgrades" and perhaps a limited inventory. They may even take something like Borderlands or Dead Island as a model. Those have real inventories and limited skill trees. Those all are good games, but are hardly rpgs.

Of course it's an Action-RPG.
Because the "industry standard" is nowadays Action-RPGs. Follow the trail of money. Nothing complex please, and no mechanics or micromanagement that could frighten away potential players. Of course it will sell like BEEEP.

If it was as much a RPG as Fallout 4 would people be happy? I think that would be a big seller. Make it like Skyrim or FO4 and they would have a huge game on their hands. Wishful thinking I know but Star Wars in an open world like those would be amazing.

Like I said in some other thread, the future is for AAA games to be open world with fully voiced NPCs with MMO-type quests, that's all that's needed for critics to give the game 85+ and trillions of copies sold.

Games are now bring in the biggest dollars in the entertainment world and to have a game as complex as most here would want from a AAA studio. Well the average gamer would put 3 hours into and whine all over the internet how crappy the game is.
Anyways, I have a large back log, love replaying games I love, lots of indie games coming.

Something tells me EA doesn't actually understand what people want.

I bet you EA releases a new title in this franchise every 1-2 years, with the months in between packed with DLC releases. They will nickel and dime fans to death, then release another broken game.
Regardless of who the developer is, we know EA will micromanage it, get their hands in it, put in things like Denuvo DRM to make it slow, and generally break the game. This much I would happily bet on.

There is a lot of negativity on this thread so I will temper it by saying that Visceral has some very talented game developers and Amy Hennig is one of the best game writers around today. Visceral hasn't made an RPG yet, but that doesn't mean they won't be able to hit out of the park, so I am optimistic for now.

Yeah, I dunno. I was never a fan to the KotOR game. I feel like Star Wars works better as an action game. I mean, really… how many different skills did anyone in the films develop? It's basically "I'm a gunslinger" vs "I'm an acrobatic sword wielder"
Not saying it should be simplistic and shallow, but the entire concept is pretty basic.

Well if it is going to be an action rpg, I hope they put real effort into saber combat design. If its going to be just button smashing i'd be seriously dissapointed.

If it's going to be an open world of significant size, I'd actually rather have action combat. Maybe throw in something similar to VATS for people who want it, but I don't want pure turn-based combat if we're talking about a large world and a focus on exploration.
