Games like Lands of Lore 3?
March 14th, 2016, 03:36
I know that LoL 3 does not have the best reputation among RPG-fans, and I get why (it felt rushed), but I just beat it, and I liked it. I did in fact liked it more than LoL 2 (though not quite as much as LoL 1). Now I'm in the mood for something else along that line. Does anyone know of any similar games that are worth playing?
I have played System Shock 1 & 2, Ultima Underworld 1 & 2, Arx Fatalis and probably a few others that I can't remember of the top of my head. I'm not looking for something party based, nor anything that's very "heavy".

How about Venetica?

No idea. I haven't played LoL3 in 15 years. I just went with single-player, single-character and not heavy. All of those fit Venetica like a glove.

I skimmed a gameplay video on Youtube to try and find out what you were on about, but all I saw were cut-scenes and some hiking simulation.

If you must know I was thinking of suggesting the cut-scene based classic game Dragon's Lair.

Would Mount and Blade be a fit? I remember that I played it single-character though I think you could join a band too. I only demoed the game and never played very far. When I googled games like Lands of Lore 3, I got Oblivion and Skyrim
You'd want OOO or MMM mods to make them more combat heavy and to do away with the level scaling.
Have you played Two Worlds Two? I'm just throwing out ideas as they come to me.

Stone Keep is one that comes to mind for me, if you've not played it I think it would be worth a shot.

I don't understand why you guys keep suggesting 3rd-person games when he specifically said "first-person".
@Fnord - I agree you should try stonekeep if you haven't already played it. I don't think it's aged very well tbh, but I can't think of many games that fit the criteria.

Actually the Redshift games like The Quest might be good ones to try, especially since they just updated them:

I have Stonekeep on GOG, but I sadly did not like it very much. It was not terrible, but it was not for me.
Mount & Blade and Oblivion are more sandbox games. Oblivion is one out of two TES games that I don't like. Even when modded to a point where you can hardly find a trace of the original game, I just did not like the design of it. Some complete conversions worked, but the main game was just dull (Arena is the other one I don't like).
As for The Quest, does the steam version have the expansions?

The Quest
It's almost certain we'll update our own expansion: "Islands of Ice and Fire". All other expansions are by third parties so we would have to work with them. Because it is a lot of work to update an expansion, we'll be considering each expansion separately. It is also tile based movement. Kind of a Might and magic for one party member. Very favorable ratings on Steam.
