Hi, I'm one of the creators of Bevontule. A few things:
-I had no idea this site existed. This is absolutely amazing and I'll be checking in on this often! I really appreciate you listing some of Bevontule's greatest strengths outright
-This is actually the 3rd Bevontule demo
but I realize now that it will be the 2nd one listed on IndieDB. I hope it's OK to link this, but you can always check out our site here if you're interested in playing our very first demo, released in November! You can also find additional information about our game as well as our blog detailing the last year of development.
-By all means, please ask any and all questions you have here as well as any feedback! Again, really appreciate the time and effort you put into the writeup. Take care

Will your new demo be more than combat? I'm more interested in a slice of the full game. The screenshots look pretty good, but the devil is in the details. I'm always far more interested in how the game plays outside of combat. Is there treasure to be found by exploration? Are there hidden dungeons? How is dialogue handled? What about magic, how much and what kinds? Which game does your game most closely match?

Okay, looks like the new demo is a slice and it releases on July 7th. I've already commented on the website, but it'd be cool to release it July 1st for the long weekend most Americans will be enjoying. Is that even feasible? I'd love to take a looksee and post back my impressions here.

Hello!
There will be many more of both in the full release, but for the demo even, we have plenty of items to find, use and equip, and you could consider one of the areas a 'hidden dungeon' in that it is not necessary to enter it in order to finish the demo.
There are furthermore no elemental resistances, although there are a few 'elemental-like' interactions. For instance, one of the enemies is immune to the 'Burning' status effect, but his ice-based counterpart is not. There is a large emphasis on status effects and resistances in lieu of having straight up elemental pairings.
Once again, thanks for the questions and interest and let me know if there's anything else you're curious about!
Is there treasure to be found by exploration? Are there hidden dungeons?Yes and yes!

What about magic, how much and what kinds? There isn't your standard fantasy-style magic, but there is a distinction between magical and physical abilities and there is definitely a specific kind of 'energy', per se, that will become more prominent and 'useable' as the game progresses, but I don't want to say too much about it at the moment

I would say that our game, battle-wise, is heavily influenced by Final Fantasy Tactics, Vandal Hearts, Parasite Eve and even Vagrant Story, but we have a unique combination of elements that we think blends the best of those respective systems. Plot-wise, games like Xenogears (and saga), Shadow Hearts and, of course, classic Final Fantasies, are influences in the way we wanted to present the story and depth of the plot. Exploration-wise, I am influenced by games like Xenoblade and even Elder Scrolls, but I do want to take out and reduce some of the tedium associated with their questing systems.
but it'd be cool to release it July 1stI don't know if we'll have absolutely everything implemented by then, but we might be able to toss you a slightly less-stable build if you'd be interested? It'd be awesome to get some feedback!
Once again, thanks for the questions and interest and let me know if there's anything else you're curious about!

If you want to send me a link, I'll look at a beta demo build. There are a lot of rpg veterans here, if you want a larger pool of test minions. You could just post a pre-beta link right here in the thread, with a warning
I'm a pc only guy, so I haven't played any of the games you mentioned, so I won't have any preconceived notions about what the game "should" look and play like. I will also give you impressions from a mouse/keyboard perspective because that's the only way I ever play games. I'm 52 (as of today actually) and a little old for twitch stuff.

Okay, the thread is broken about the new demo; at least for me, but I'm glad to see that this is a "slice" of the full game instead of just a combat piece. I may download this when I get home and take a quick look. I haven't played anything on a console since the original PS, so I've never heard of any of the games they talk about in this thread. If it feels like a jRPG, I won't get far.
