And on Steam this week there's…. dink. Last week was really weak, too. The quiet before the storm?

Hard Reset: Extended Edition is 85% off. If you like pure shooters once in a while, this is a very underrated game. Think Serious Sam in a cyberpunk setting.
The Shadowgate remake is 75% off.
Lords of Xulima is 40% off.
Consortium is 80% off.
Hard West is 20% off and gets released tomorrow.

There is a deal on the 3 Ishar games (plus Crystals Of Arborea) on GOG this weekend. Is only 99p for all 4 games. I remember playing 1 & 2 on my Amiga many many years ago and greatly enjoying them.

While ishar was fun and I have some great memories about it, I also remember it, especially the first game, being a mess regarding polish and bugs.
And game design wise I also hated that you were required to fire group members to invite temporary companions.
Well, $1.49 (thats what I get displayed) is almost nothing. But unlike other "old" RPGs this game is something I know I would not bother with.

The Steam sale should be starting in, oh, 16 hours or so. However, all those flash sales are going away. What you see on day 1 is what you'll see on Dec 1. Valve says it's so the customers can better use the sales tools but many folks think it has something to do with the new refund policy.

Well, it's not like steam "wants" to offer games as cheap as possible and asks the publishers if they are allowed to do so.
Steam asks the publishers which prices they want to have at the steam sale and afaik they also give suggestions.
I also see the reason in the new steam refund policies, which also means that there are less angry customers as steam says. I am pretty sure working in Steam CSM support during sales wasn't the happiest job you can do, dealing with all the customers whining about having bought a game, which was just reduced even more.
Personally I liked these flash sales and I never whined about missing the best price. But I can understand this decision.

@azarhal: If you follow the link to PC Gamer you can see that they quoted from an e-mail that apparently Valve sent out to the publishers, asking them to only provide them with one price. The way it is worded sounds to me like Valve are the originator of the idea (also because they specifically mention their sales tools as a cause for the change).
Regarding deep discounts, I'd say your "last summer" observation is too conservative. Many people seem to have felt that Steam sales have been kind of meh for the last couple of years at least, i.e. meh compared to the deep discounts and very nice deals we got on semi-new games in the early years of the sales.
Therefore, I'm inclined to believe that refunds might indeed be the more likely primary cause of the change but potentially higher average sales prices are certainly a very welcome secondary objective for the publishers, no doubt about that.

I've lost faith in GoG DOSBox ports of old games. JA2 UI would become unresponsive and Redguard framerates were abysmal. Also, the support team couldn't resolve my issues. So, they have a 30 day moneyback guarantee. Fine, but if I don't play the game in a while that doesn't work. So no backlog additions from GoG DOSBox ports. I will only buy them when I play them.
November 24th, 2015, 22:41
That's weird. JA2 UI isn't actually a DOS game and JA2 works fine on current PCs. You must not switch tasks though because that actually makes it crash.
Regarding support…yeah. Tried to get a statement regarding let's play permissions 2 weeks ago. No answer yet.

Ah, switching tasks is something I do frequently. It wouldn't crash, just the UI would stop working (not being able to select things, IIRC). Now if someone told me about the dangers of task switching in their support office, I may not be so negative. Couldn't find it in their forums either. :/
November 24th, 2015, 22:47
I see. Remember that for other games of the Windows 95 / 98 era. As this isn't the only game having problems with it.
