This exclusive just because developer is Sony's subsidiary got overwhelming reviews. Mostly from sites I've never heard about.

Although, I'm kinda wondering about the game content. Going by Giant Bomb, it's barely a 30 hours long game. An open world game that is just 30 hours long????

I believe the main quest in Skyrim is supposed to last about 30 hours. If the reviewers have just blasted through so they can write their piece, that figure might not be too shocking.

If it took reviewers 30 hours then chances are it will take m about 50 hours and I think thats good number. I no longer likes any games which are 70+ hours long since chances are there will be fillers.

Horizon Zero Dawn is Witcher 3 sets in a dystopian future with Ciri as the main protagonist! And yes its almost good as Witcher 3 so far. Fun fact, the voice actor for Geralt is also in the game!
Witcher 3 pretty much starts off with Geralt training a young Ciri and HZD starts off with Roth (Geralt minus the sarcasm) training a young Aloy but you continue to play Aloy. She even has “Witcher sense” and it’s used in the same way as W3.
I am about 20 hours in and really enjoying it. The game look amazing (PS4 Pro 4K, no HDR) and the art direction and attention to detail is top notch. Apparently FPS is locked at 30 but I doubt I will tell the difference if its running at 60 since everything is very smooth and fluid as far as I am concerned. HZD looks better(mostly much better lightning) than W3 on PS4 but not compared to W3 on PC (I have W3 on both PS4 and PC). However W3 still has far better facial animation and HZD really can do with improvement here.
I was initially worried this game is going to be another Skyrim etc when it comes to story but once again HZD follow W3! Story and character presentations are done in similar way to W3 and to *similar* quality as well. You have an interesting story and characters and they keep you hooked into the world and you care whats happening to the world because of that. However there is no choice or consequences in W3 sense at all. What is there is cosmetic. You can respond to situations in different ways and the game will acknowledge that with some minor changes later but they won’t change the end of the story at all. The story is fixed and you don’t get alternate endings. But don’t get me wrong, the stories themselves are interesting. Even side quest are fully fleshed out and have stories and not go kill 10 monster etc.
This is personal preference but I prefer the combat and game play in HZD over W3. I can’t really put it in words but W3 combat felt “rigid and stiff” to me in that the control system didn’t click with me at all. However HZD control system felt “natural” to me and it clicked with me. This is coming from a guy who can’t aim for shite with a controller! The combat system isn’t anything like Dark souls but the combat controls felt natural like Dark souls. If that make any sense.
Aloy has different types ranged weapons, a single melee weapon and stealth at her disposal. There are variety of enemies with weakness and strength and you can use different tactics and weapons on them. This bring in strategic element to the combat. I mainly play archer who uses stealth to soften enemies and then melee to finish them off. There is skill you can pick at level up time to slow down time during aiming and that is god send for me! Speaking of level up, you get HP boost and given skill points which you can spend on a big skill tree.
Finally to Aloy herself. Like W3 you have a fixed protagonist whom you see group up from child to a young girl. She comes across as very level headed and mature. There is no teenage anguish fest here! She is “objectively” attractive but not sexualized at all. As male gamer playing female character, I think the writers were trying to get you to have friend/ daughter relationship with her rather than the Laura Craft effect!
So in summary, This is a good game and I would say worth getting PS4 for it!

Nice write-up! I still hope it'll get a proper PC version. That would also allow them and us to really squeeze out the most of the Decima engine, which looks like a solid engine. Impressive what they've done with the limitations of the PS4 (especially the regular version, which still plays well in full HD).

Seems GG has finally hit it off, gettin PS4 for this one for sure. ( could be very soon, rumor is price could drop due to Switch in EU).
Combat with machines seems like highlight, the way larger ones tear through environment in combat…really brings Jurassic/Avatar feel.
Seamless open world with incredible performance and visuals at the same time( almost as good as Fallout IV
).

If a game will sell on PC, it'll appear on PC one way or another. Capitalism works that way. Or at least should - there is no logic to refuse making profit on something that doesn't look like a scam.

PS4 will sell with or without it. Consoles have the audience, it doesn't matter what you put on them those will still sell. No I don't understand that audience, I can't, but then again I don't understand (now I lack of vocabulary) pitch problems many people have while singing which doesn't mean I'd restrict music distribution only to be enjoyed by certain people - that'd be discrimination. IMO.

I'm also playing Horizon, and it definitely is a blast. But I'd love it more if it were on PC. I'm not too good with the controller. But I love the world. I'm amazed how much they managed to pull from console hardware.

After @CDProjektRed’s lovely tweet we just had to return the favor! Here’s Geralt & Aloy engaged in a little friendly competition 😉

And where… and where… is Bioware?
