Default BioWare - A Note About Our New IP

February 1st, 2017, 14:23
BioWare shared some info about their rumored new Ip.

Link - http://blog.bioware.com/2017/01/31/a…ut-our-new-ip/
In 2012, we began crafting a new universe full of new characters, stories, and gameplay. Our ambition is simple: Draw upon 20+ years of development knowledge and lessons to create something fun and new for you to enjoy with your friends.

There’s nothing quite as exciting as building a new IP from scratch, and it will be even more thrilling for us to share more with you in the future.
Can't wait to see if it's a new fantasy, or sci-fi setting.

It's impossible to say who's worse, EA or Ubi.

Ubi's recent MMO crap was advertised as RPG. EA's upcoming MMO crap is advertised as nonRPG.
Who the hell cares if it contains RPG elements or not. It's bloody MMO and marketing departments of these two filthy rich liars should start telling the truth already.

These two companies should merge. It's the same turd, different wrapping.

Well it's definitely multi-player focused or an MMO which doesn't interest me much.

The two old guesses from the BNS is that it is either a Superhero IP or something with a contemporary setting + weird stuff (cannibalized/reworked Shadow Realms maybe?).

My personal guess is that there is underwater elements, because the writer team for the SecretIP twitted a few pics of octopus and turtles with the tag #SecretIP + comments over the last year. They were also wondering how one of the character could ever be cosplayed, so some characters are not "bipedal".

The mass think it's a The Division, a MOBA or Overwatch clone though, but BioWare said it was an action-adventure game with character progression/story…which well, doesn't sound that different from what they have been making since Jade Empire. The mp hints sound more like co-op to me as well (another Shadow Realms feature might I add).

Maybe, but I don't like this talk of "bringing people together in exciting new ways". I want to be offline in my mancave in exciting new ways.

Well, some of us like MMO's. But I would prefer a single-player universe.

pibbur who admits that the world doesn't exactly need yet another MMO. Neither does pibbur.

I don't see anywhere in this nothing blurb where it says that.

It's heavily implied that the game has a multiplayer core with the quotes from the Bioblog: "we’re creating a unique IP that will bring players together" and "Draw upon 20+ years of development knowledge and lessons to create something fun and new for you to enjoy with your friends."

And here is a full transcript of Andrew Wilson (EA CEO) speech about the game in the financial report (which I find hilarious to read): "So it's an action adventure, not RPG. So what we're starting to see more and more in game genres, kind of genre-melding which is great components of a number of different genres, really kind of coming together into single games. And so, when you think about this game, you should be thinking about the great RPG character development and storyline progression that BioWare is known for, but in a world of greater action and greater adventure which is growing to be one of the larger categories in games. It will be a wholly owned IP. We're very excited about it, and we'll share more in the year to come."

Eh? That's one weird statement. Could be direct influence from ME III multiplayer, but in what kind of setting?
Has a clear design by committee sound to it, possibly EA's answer to Destiny or Overwatch/Team Fortress, but with more emphasis on characters/ storyline, besides gameplay.
Bioware has been pushing more toward action than rpg for a "while", but it's damn surprising to hear them say outright: We're not making an rpg.

It's not like Overwatch/Team Fortress, these are competitive shooters and have no adventure in them to fit into the action-adventure tag.

His entire speech just make Sea of Thieves pop into my head. Which doesn't really fit into any real category.

Same here- most multiplayer games these days don't interest me, and then there's the problem of having to persuade someone to play them with you.
