Oculus verdict: Judge awards ZeniMax $500 million
February 2nd, 2017, 18:32
At least someone is making money off VR…
Since ZeniMax will be swimming in Suckerberg money, we might get Elder Scrolls 6 soon?

A drop in the ocean for what VR will be worth, IMO.
TES 6 in VR, yes, I'll take that.

A drop in the ocean when it comes to Facebook's $.
Still. One small victory over social networks is a big step for mankind.

It's not the end. Oculus/Facebook will appeal for sure. Also it was a partial victory for Oculus/Facebook as the jury determined they didn't steal IP, just failed to comply with NDAs.

VR might be niche now, but I think it will be pretty freaking huge eventually.
I heard that getting sick can be an issue. I wonder how they will fix that…

I couldn't figure out the $500 million reward. It sounded like they (facebook side) didn't actually do antyhing wrong (no trade secrets stolen) so how did the jury come up with $500 million ?

If I understood correctly it's caused by NDA breech. But who cares? Facebook needs to pay up for scamming all it's victims. Not for something we'd want? Ah well… Pacino got caught on taxes.

The $1/2b award is obvious - the jury is sending a message to FB the only way they know how.

The company will never see anywhere near that award. Lawyers can tie this up for decades, then tie it some more if they lose that and FB will still be ahead. Look what Lotus and Apple did by preventing anyone in any country from coming up with a competing product even though they didn't invent the spreadsheet or the GUI respectively.
FB will make them sweat until there's a settlement.
Right now, Oculus Rift seems to me to be a bit of bomb. There must be something about patents and early market potential and the name that will show returns in the future.

Why is FB responsible for an NDA breach. The NDA was between the employee and the company; not to mention $500 million is outrageous (IMHO).
