Anyone made the mod to change NWN II attack animations? Remember they made it look like everyone was jumping around in combat like hippies.

Don't laugh but I never played NwN 2. One day.

And thanks for that gargantuan list Couch! Not that I'm unaware of those mods, it's just handy to have such a list here.

luj1, I doubt anybody would fault you for that. It's not exactly considered a "must play."

I use a lot of mods, haven't played in a while but…. I use two combat related ones I think, Improved Cute Cleaves and NWN2 creature distance tweaks. Also a spell effects tweak that tones down how buffs look, it's called Buff Effects v1.5. As old as it is the combat animations in NWN1 are I think they're actually better than #2 for the most part.

Hey Couch, can I copy and paste that NWN mod info and pin it on the Steam group?

Yes you can. Though I could probably add more if required.

Note: Do give a warning that some of those mods are not for minors.

Will do, Couch. Thanks! If you want to add more recommendations I will wait and post it later. Just thought that pinning in on the Steam group would be easier for people to discover in the future.

My preference is with the first game but the sequel gave us Mask of the Betrayer, which is must-play.

That's the general feeling you get when you read the comments posted over the years. Both the author of Swordflight and the Aielund Saga looked into continuing their campaigns on Electron, but concluded that it didn't suit their purposes, and so stuck with Aurora.

The main thing I've picked up on is that slapping down tilesets is much easier than sculpting terrains. Yes, NWN2 areas look better when they are sculpted by someone skilled, but I don't really play these games so much for their visuals, and NWN looks good enough for me (and in some ways better; f.e, its animations).

In the end it's the custom content that counts for me. And in this respect NWN is head and shoulders above NWN2. (Show me something like Swordflight on NWN2, f.e)

I agree with you about Electron, but not with your opinion about NWN 2 mods. Just look at my list of NWN 2 mods, and some are equal if not better then half of NWN mods.

I also remember BioWare promising the DA tool-set would allow mods like NWN, but in the end it turned out to be worse then the Electron engine. It was a damn shame.

Your list is missing a lot of NWN greats (no Hex Coda, Swordflight, Honor Among Thieves, Cave of Songs, Sanctum etc.)

Never said it was a complete list.

As it takes time to edit over a hundred links on a forum board. Also I didn't enjoy playing Cave of Songs, Sanctum, or Hex Coda as not every NWN mod is for everyone.

My favorite mods are Darkness Over Daggerford, Aielund Saga, Agrenost, & Vis et Virtus.

That's a superb list Couch, and I, for one, would love to see the full list, well worth the effort IMO, and something that could be pinned.

Good one so now we're moving on to name calling.

Thanks I linked a few in a different thread, but that was last year. You can also check out the links posted by Lilura for a more complete list to suit everyone various tastes.

Anyone have any story / role-play heavy / combat light NWN modules that they'd recommend?

I love modules like Almraiven / Shadewood, A Dance With Rogues, The Prophet Trilogy for NWN and The Maimed God Saga for NWN2. I also liked The Conan Chronicles mod a lot even if it was a bit more focused on combat, it was designed very well.

But I find many of the other highly regarded modules dull because they just put you against endless trash mobs with the occasional dull fetch quest… I've tried a lot but I'm betting there's still some good ones that I missed.

The only way I'd play them again is if I bought a hdd, shipped it to Couch, and had him install both games and all the mods I'm too lazy to work for my games anymore. Blame Steam and Gog!

I charge anywhere from $10 to $20 an hour crpgnut.

Seriously though installing all the hak & override files does become a chore.

Dream Catcher from Adam Miller, I remember being great, one of those "long hero's journey" stories.
It takes a while to get going though, think first module or two are far behind in quality of others.

I remember trying that and not being impressed at all (of course I only played the first module or two at most). But I've also tried Adam Miller's Dark Waters mod for NWN2 and found that exceedingly dull as well so I think perhaps I just don't see whatever it is others see in his mods.

Think I'll try Swordflight as mentioned in Lilura's post. And A Dance With Spies.
