Zelda game, which platform is best?

I disagree with them being all different. From Ocarina of Time to Skywards sword they were all pretty similar.

But in terms of style and atmosphere - they all look pretty much the same to me, apart form obvious technological improvements.

The other games were also linear, you went from a to b to c, in BotW you can complete everything in any order once you leave the plateau or just go straight to the end and beat the game, its all up to you.
The combat is very different, the environment comes into play a lot, like you can use a local campfire to light a normal arrow to fire at an explode-able barrel to give you a great advantage in battle. Also the breakable weapon system means that you arent using 1-3 different weapons the whole game and your constantly changing your gameplay style in fights.

It's the other games I haven't played much. I played Ocarina of Time for a few hours a while back, and it had the same sort of "happy vibrance" and lots of neat little gameplay elements. To me, it's sort of in the same realm of gameplay - even if BotW is very different in many ways.
To me, they're "cute" little games - but not something I could ever lose myself in. I can't take the art style or extremely limited storytelling seriously.

Forget the naysayers and get it on the Switch. You will easily squeeze 100 hours out of it. The game runs better on the Switch and has slightly better graphics on it too. Plus the portability is really nifty. I, like you, bought the console for just the one game, but got Mario Kart for the kids and they love it.

Also, I hear Skyrim will be ported to the Switch as well, so if you feel like playing through it again with the option to do so on the bus or on the toilet, the Switch will be really useful.

It most certainly doesn't have better graphics on Switch - and the frame-rate is identical if you have the proper system.
There's quite a difference between running it at 4K with proper AA and the native Switch resolution.
Apart from some very minor glitches, the one remaining issue would be the crashes.
So, again, unless you're crazy about wanting to play it - and you feel like spending the money on what's going to be a wasted console in nearly all other contexts - I'd say hold off for a month or two and see if they can't make it 100%.
However, that's just me - and I think I've said my piece by now.

I know, and there's no visual difference between the Switch and Wii U versions. The only difference in the Switch version is a tiny improvement in environmental sound effects and that it renders at a higher resolution than the Wii U version. The CEMU version can render at a much, much higher resolution with better AA.
Not to mention the things you can do with Reshade and what not.

Ah, I realise now that crpgnut was still considering the Wii U version and not necessarily the CEMU version. In that case, the slightly higher resolution might be worth it - though I certainly don't think so.
My mistake.
My mistake.

I'd be interested if the Switch could function like an iPad and a Kindle in addition to games.
And FFS, the entire planet knows you can do more with a desktop PC, some people want portability, flexibility, etc., and $400 isn't that big a deal to everyone.

If the cost of a switch is one day's work for you, just buy it, the cost is insignificant to you. Unless your total costs for one day are at or near your daily income then don't do that!

100K? Lol, nope that's not how it works, it's also a lot about how many money you throw in trash or in really necessary stuff, and then what left for more, and for some "non sense" pure pleasure buy.

I found out the relatives aren't really into Nintendo, they're all PS4/XBrain.
