ABOUT THE LONG DARK
Imagine the lights go out, never to return. Bright aurora flare across the sky, and all humanity’s technological might is laid to waste, neutralized in a kind of quiet apocalypse. Everything that has shielded humanity from the disinterested power of Mother Nature is suddenly wrenched from us, dropping us a few links down the food chain. Food and water are scarce. The roads are no longer safe. And winter approaches…

Welcome to The Long Dark —an immersive survival simulation set in the aftermath of a geomagnetic disaster. Experience a unique first-person survival simulation that will force you to think and push you to your limits with its thought-provoking gameplay.

Played an early iteration a year or so ago. They may have a winner.

Season 1.
Okay, I know Steam now sells series - sorry, I'm watching different seasons elsewhere.

And I do recommend Hinterland (Y Gwyll), season 1. It's a welsh crime gem you want to watch:

Although, I didn't see an episode The Long Dark. Instead I watched some similarilly titled ones like "Night Music", "In the Dead of Night" and "Dark River".

/LE attitude off

I'm not saying a game that feels generic mediocre survival can't be good. But it's presentation didn't do anything to get me even mildly interested. So I'll wait for some detailed input from people who buy it, for example, can permadeath be turned off at all.

Was this the game where every piece of winter clothing you wear has detailed stats for how it protects you against the weather, sort of like armor stats in a more traditional fantasy game?

Season One, or "Wintermute", puts you in the role of the crash-landed pilot, smack dab in the middle of nowhere at the start of the Episode, along with a piece of metal driven through your left hand. You first have to get the errant shard of metal out of your hand, and then it is on to find shelter, bandage yourself up, and then somehow build a fire. From there, it was find your bearings and move on with the incredible story. Think of a darker, hardcore-survival version of Kona. Thats what you have now with The Long Dark. Excellent stuff.
