Is ME:A or Prey worth playing ?
August 19th, 2017, 18:57
Both ME:A and Prey are on sale ($20 and $30); thinking of buying one of them but not sure if it is worth it. the reviews are mix (actually they are quite good for prey). Also it isn't clear to me if either game plays well with KB/M (NO CONTROLLER).

I was really disappointed by ME:A even if I am a real fan of Mass Effect trilogy. The story was a big let down for me and I just could not feel involved at all. It went from a cliché to another.
However, other people here quite liked it.
KB/M was quite well implemented. I only use that too and I had no issue.
I did not play Prey yet.

Putting the Origin platform on a computer that you care about isn't a good idea, so I'd avoid it on that principle alone. Find something better on GoG or, if really desperate, steam.

I agree with Aerth on ME:A. I thought the entire thing was pathetic.
However…. some people quite liked it.
Prey was interesting. I don't know if $30 is quite worth it for me but still overall a decent game.

I paid full price for Prey, and it was worth every penny.
Haven't played ME:A yet but I will eventually.

Enjoying Prey at the moment, bit of a natural successor to System Shock IMO.
ME:A will be bought before Xmas, haven't had a problem with the Origin client either.

They are very different from one another, kind of like comparing Hollywood blockbuster to european art film.
If you want a more focused experience, meh to poor gameplay, great exploration/level design/world building with lower production values…go with Prey.
MEA has better gameplay, characters, but it's far bigger than it should be and the writing is of…varied quality.

ME:A is a decent -- even good -- game. Biggest problem is living up to its heritage; and overcoming negative repercussions of ME3 ending. If you have a big emotional investment in ME1-3, you might have a problem with ME:A since it does not IMO rise above its predecessors. Taken on its own, its a good and enjoyable game that falls short of great - still - lots of hours of enjoyment if a bit tedious in places. IMO you'll get at least your money's worth at the $20 price tag.

Also IMO, you should buy ME4, play now. Don't play it's MMO part unless Thrasher will join your "squad". Concentrate on the singleplayer.
Skip Prey, there is absolutely nothing in that game worth remembering, when they drop the price even more you may give it a shot. $30 is simply too much for that almost mediocrity.

Currently playing Prey and well worth the price; there's a free demo available too. Quite similar to the System Shock games, so if you enjoyed them, you'll like this!!

Prey was great fun, and I suck at those types of games. Lots of fun finding how to break into all of the various locations. Most fun ever with a nerf dart crossbow that you'll ever have.
I've never played any of the Mass Effects, so I can't help you there.

Having played part of both the ME:A trial and the Prey demo today, I found ME:A to be a clunky piece of shit that was glitchy on my system, while Prey ran well and felt overall more polished. I know which I'd get

Haven't played prey. However have very much enjoyed ME:A and have gone through twice. Only bit that drags unfortunately is the first 5-6 hours!

Thanks folks. I guess I will try ME:A and when prey drops a little more prey. For Joker I don't play multiplayer in any game these days so I'm always talking abuot single player campaign/portion

Both are worth playing and then some, if you ask me.
Overall, Prey is definitely the better game - but both are well above average in my opinion.

But it's sound design is worst I've heard from AA(A) in years.

I didn't have any issues with the sound in Prey. Are you sure the problem wasn't on your end?
You cannot even tell position of enemies…there is a very noticeable disconnect from where they are and where sounds are coming from, even with talking to npcs standing right in front of you.
Even your own footsteps somehow sound "off"..like there's always an extra step. Mixing is completely off, rapidly changing from a "light ambiance to incredibly noisy track, no real transition, back and forth.
Bethesda typically has poor sound design, but this is something else.

Also, Prey wasn't developed by Bethesda, it was developed by Arkane.
