Pictures taken at the Gamescom 2018 in Cologne, Germany
August 22nd, 2018, 12:13
For those who are not able to visit the place, here are some photos taken with an ordinary iphone, so please do not pay attention to the quality. It is just meant to give you an idea what it is like this year.
Larian had a tiny spot. Not wider than the board you see, behind the board there was some sort of walk-in closet with four screens on each site.

Kingdom Come Deliverance was there. I played the latest DLC a bit. They had 3 save files.
It seems to be more of the same.
I did not have to wait that long before a seat was free (1 minute or so). If I would have had to wait for ten minutes I would have left. I do not understand while people are so desperate to wait for one hour only to be able to play a game.

Here are the last ones.
I visited the commercial area as well (the part where you can get T-shirts, mousepads, sunglasses, hats, etc).
I hesitated on buying a very wide mouse pad, where you put your keyboard on as well. Seems usable, but I did not find any print to my liking.
Lots of Steampunk stuff too (glasses, clothes, hats, masks). It is becoming fashionable I guess.
I skipped the hardware area and the family entertainment area. I was getting tired.

It looks like lot of fun. Its shame that we don't get much game conferences here in UK, otherwise I would love to visit one. Do they give out free swag?
Also are you the woman sitting on the chair on the last picture? Asking because of her eye

I was there on a day you could only get in when having an invitation. This year though, that special 'press and traders' day was less crowded than the last time I went, a couple of years back. It was almost as comfortable as the time the 'Gamesom' was still held in Leipzig.

BTW I have visited the Gamescom in the past when open to the public, and being sold out. That is no fun. You do not have the necessary space to take any photos then.

There were a couple of presentations where you could win stuff. I once joined the excited crowd and tried to get a nice T-shirt from Fortnite but being not large or tall, and standing in the back I cheered and waved in vain.
O well, it does not matter where I stand, front, back or at the sides, I tried all the different spots, all I get are big fellows stepping on my toes, I always seem to be surrounded by skyscrapers that do not notice me either until they hear me screaming.

Haha.
I only played KCD From The Ashes. There were three save files: one where you fight some bandits, one where you are at the beginning of the creation of a new settlement, and one where there were quite some buildings finished. I mostly explored the area, and my fight with the bandits did not go that well. I spend 10 minutes or so, playing the three. I could have played longer, but it felt familiar.
(I am playing KCD at home right now).
I think it is quite difficult to get a good judgement at a game conference and having just a short amount of time at your disposal, be it ten minutes or half an hour. Frankly speaking, I trust a review of certain websites more than me fiddling around a bit with parts that were pre-selected by the developer/publisher.
I usually do not play many games when at the Gamescom. I find it hard to focus myself having all the (enormous) noise and people around me.
At some games, like KCD, there is a headset of course, but I still find it hard to forget my surroundings and immerse myself into a game.
Besides, there is so much to see at the Gamescom, the different areas are huge. If you spend serious time playing one or two games you’ll need at least two days.
Maybe next time I’ll try one of those VR devices though. I saw two games where you lie on your belly in some kind of moveable structure. I’ll never buy such a thing, so my only chance to experience it is at the Gamescom.

Its shame you didn't get any free stuff! I love getting free stuff from conventions, even if its just pen and note pad! Many gears ago, when I was a teenager I went to tech show with my uncle in London. It was the time of booth babes and there was big queue to take photos with this one model who looked and dressed like Pamela Anderson! Not only did I took a photo with her but I also got peck on the cheek from her! Best swag ever
Plus my uncle was so jealous
Do you have to pay to go Gamescom? If yes, how much?
I like that photo and I imagined you took it because of her eye

On my photos you can see the podium of Game of Thrones, where you can get your friends take a picture of you (with or without a model standing next to you) with you on the throne. There was quite a queue there.
I took some free postcards of KCD of the rack you can see on one of the photos (the rack beneath the screen), that is it.
Plenty of games that were offering posters you could take home with you if you wanted. I did not.
I hardly pay attention to it - I do not have a den.
You can also participate in contests, to win a game, a shield or a sword for instance. But seeing the competition I decline. Besides, apart from a game, it is rubbish that you put on a shelf just to collect dust.
I like T-shirts, thrown at you at presentations - when in size S/M. Usually it is L, XL or XXL though.
And I can always use pens, but I never see those being offered in that digital play world.

I got a free ticket. It cost me some petrol, to get there.
O, and a short night with little sleep, and tired feet at the end of the day.Originally Posted by lostforever

Reason: Added: Possibility of photos with models at the gamescom, and photo taken at Game of Thrones throne.

Speaking of T-Shirts, apparently you can this T-Shirt, from Hall 5.2 (if that makes sense) from Guerrilla games twitter. I wouldn't mind pushing couple people from the lines to get hold of it!

In endless shops like this one

Where about fifteen t-shirt shops resemble the following one but then the hats are shirts (shirts everywhere you look):

And then there are loads of others that look like this one:

So that all these people can buy one or more shirts:

The above pictures of the shops in this posting here, I found on the internet, btw. I did not take them myself.
