A new Kickstarter from Abbey Games introduces god game Godhood, which has a goal of 50K.

Abbey Games, the creator of Reus and Renowned Explorers, is back with an all-new single-player god game, Godhood.
As a tribal god, create your own religion, inspire your tribe's growth, convert unbelievers and become the greatest god of all.
While channeling the titans of yore, such as Black & White and Populous, Godhood sets out to revive the PC strategy god game genre in it's own unique way: by allowing you to truly craft your own one-of-a-kind religion.
What is Godhood?
- Craft your religion as a tribal god.
- Choose virtues, vices, rituals and religious dogmas.
- Inspire a group of heroic disciples to spread your will, without direct control.
- Watch your holy temple site grow over generations from an isometric perspective.
- Defeat enemy disciples in ritual conflict to convert worshippers and power up.
- Early Access release planned for May 2019 on PC (Windows / Mac / Linux), priced at EUR25.
- Full release later in 2019, priced at EUR30, with post-release content and DLC support planned for years.

Looks like a developer was inspired by the Populous, Settlers, and various city building games. Seems a lot of these games have been getting released over the years.

All the recent ones I've seen all looked pretty crappy. (Haven't really looked at this one yet.) I think there's room in the God-game niche for a good one. I haven't played a good one since the first Black & White game.
Edit: Watched the video. Hard to tell if it's going to have real depth from that, though they list the right games as their inspiration. Also, that is a bold choice of shirt by the guy narrating that video. I kind of like it…after the initial shock.
