My favorite CRPG villains would be Shodan from Sys Shock, Scotia from LoL and - of course - Belial from RotH (which is not a CRPG but was mentioned in another CRPG thread, so there
), with the [you know who] from Jade Empire a close second. But since they aren't mentioned, I chose Sephiroth, with Deidranna as No. 2.
EDIT
Him? Shodan is an 'it', but appeared as a 'she'.

I think it's time all you people who have either never played the original System Shock, or who haven't played it in a long time find a copy and fire it up. There's no other game like it except SS2 and perhaps DX, though it is but a pale imitation!!

I'll add it to the list! Of course, given that I keep replaying old games and the lack of time, I will probably be about 80 before I get to it!

I know enough of System shoch (have been spoiled once) so that I decided not to play it - because i don't klike the overall theme.
The idea as such is brilliant, imho.

I like the Tribunal from TES though most of their story has to be constructed from the literature in the game.

Of the ones listed Irenicus wins. It felt really rewarding to finally off that pesky bastard, and he has an excellent voice.

@The Hoff: Yeah, the Trickster was great, but I liked Karras better.

Out of the list I went with Walter Simons from Deus Ex, though Bob Page might be a more appropriate choice from that game.
The 'Prince' from Bloodlines was a really well done villain as well.
Irenicus, despite being brilliantly voiced by David Warner, was a terrible villain. The constant taunting moustache-twirling nemesis villain got real old real quick. Never should I have to exclaim at a screen STFU to David Warner. Never.
The Master from Fallout I never encountered. Which I guess is pretty neat in that you can finish the game and never run into the Big Bad.
The other choices I've never encountered (never did finish Arcanum, I won't touch FF with a really long pole etc) or they just weren't villainous. Sarevok was more a selfish opportunist than a villain.
SHODAN really ought to be on the list, as should The Transcendent One and/or Ravel. Kerras was excellent, as was Constantine/Trickster from Thief and Thief 2.
Oh, and the French. Seems that in every medieval strategy game I play I end up in some long, drawn out, difficult, expensive and grueling war with France.

You know the very powerful and the very stupid have one thing in common. They don't alter their views to fit the facts, they alter the facts to fit their views, which can be uncomfortable if you happen to be one of the facts that needs altering.

Shodan is the second.
All the other villains are just awkwardly shallow in comparison with the One from PS:T :-)
Oh, and I have to add Dark Savant to be in tie for the second place. He is not particularly intriguing but very cool nevertheless, and I sooo look forward to see him every time I'm playing Wizardry!! And he'd probably make a good husband for Shodan as well.

In the Gold version, perhaps? At least I never realized they talked about K. *scratch scratch*

Crap, seems I forgot about a few more great villians that no one mentioned. Anyone liked Metal Gear Solid? Well, Liquid Snake is also one of my favorites. I don't know why, but I just love how japs make heroes and villians. Kefka from FF6 was also a great villian, although crazy. And I forgot to mention Bob Page. That was one evil dude. I will never forget that line that goes something like this: "Let the plague spread. Let the bodies pile up on the streets. In the end, they will beg us to save them. … We will be kings,… No! Better than kings…Gods!"

Your main character in SS is mute, while JC Denton is a very cool guy with great personality and great voice. Yes there are comparisons between two games, but each have their moments. Those things actually explain to me why I never could get too deeply into SS, while Deus Ex took me in completely.

SS is on my list to replay it, but I just don't have time atm. I aquired bunch of oldies that I played but never finished or finished but with no voices. Actually completally forgot about those games. So until I am done with them, no System Shock for me. Too bad most of the old titles are very hard to aquire and to get them running on new PCs. And a lot of old games are still protected by ESA, although there is no support for such games. I really don't understand why.. Those games will completally disapear if someone doesn't do something about it.
I want to show my kids what I played when i was a kid

While I totally disagree with your evaluation of SS and DX, I respect your right to differ. I've replayed SS, but have no interest in replaying DX, even though I basically enjoyed the game!!

Does SS have that survival feeling? Yes.
Can SS character talk? No.
Are there any dialogs? No.
Does SS have adventure elements? Yes.
Are there choices to make in SS? Well I played the game only once, and besides the "class" choices i don't know if there are multiple endings and stuff like that, so i ll leave it at that.
On the other hand:
Does Deus Ex have a politicly intriguing sci fi story? Yes.
Does DX have great dialogs? Yes.
Does it have cool characters? Yes.
Does DX have multiple choices? Yes. I played it 3 or 4 times so far and I always find a new way to do things, and you also have multiple endings.
Everything I stated are facts. Do you want to tell me you totally disagree? Do you want to tell me your answers to those questions would be tottally opposite?
I also respect people's personal oppinion and taste, but you can't disagree with me about facts. Your oppinion is just that: your oppinion. It is the same reason why my best game ever is Planescape Torment, but my favorite is Final Fantasy 7. I know with facts that PST is better, but i just love FF7.
PS. You just made me want to replay SS, to check if what you say is true. If maybe the years have managed to make the game better. I had the same experience with PST. When i played it 8 years ago, the game was just too dark for me. It had everything i loved about games, but it just didn't get to me. I don't know why. Then 6 months ago I tried it again and WOW!!!! WOOOOOOW!!! Turned my life upside down. GREAT! SUPERB!! I can't describe it with words.
