Hammer, anvil, forge and fire,
chase away the hoofed liar.
Roof and doorway, block and beam,
chase the Trickster from our dream.

It is a bit creepy. Still, factory-farming animals does have its problems, both ethical and health-related, and factory-farmed chickens are among the worst. Those critters do need a bit of respect.

Of course, ALL living beings need some kind of respect …
My personal argumentation is always this:
As long as we are acting unrespectful towards animals, ANYONE can come and just say about some humans : "They're not humans at all. They're just animals …" Like the Nazis did. Or early colonists with america's natives, among others …
So, from my perspective, helping animals is in the end result = helping humans, in fact.
But I guess that oinly empathic beings like me can think this way. Unempathic ones will rather happily cling to the notion that the universe as such doesn't know such a thing like "respect" - so why not wipe out a whole town ? The people in there would've died anyway …
