Doom. That brings the memories of endless domination. I played doom(doom2/quake/etc) with all kinds of connections from nullcabel and modem to the high school network. I always easily won all and everyone who opposed me. I was "unstoppable" lol.
But it didnt really end to that. I went to army and won everyone in shooting&scouting contest including the officers. Other people in the contest simply said "we lost because he never misses the target". My best memory was shooting from a kneeling position 150m away - all shots into an area the size of a matchbox. The officer in duty called me a murdered. All I ever used was a rifle with damaged iron sights (previous owner had thrown it against rock or somthing).
After army I had som other cases too like with paintball gun shooting from hip (no aims in the gun at all) single shot 120m away at a lamp post (2 inches wide). Perhaps it was only luck but I made it with a single shot.
In wolfenstein:et at best I kept killing mostly alone the entire other team. Finally they stopped coming. They gave up. In american army (the game) after my entire team was all dead after 1st contact and all enemy alive - I kept fighting and killed everyone in the opposing team. The last one to die called me a cheater. Was kinda funny. In doom3 I won easily all my friends. It was not a contest even.
But im getting older and the games are changing. I cant dominate TF2 or CS/RO/etc. I did once wipe the entire other team in TF2 - but only once and with luck. And for one other time some unknown person did message me "youre really good". I took that as compliment, but its not like in the old days. Im only average now - mostly.
Thats what doom means to me. I never took part in big world competitions (no chance then - no reason now) and in those I might have met my better. Sorry if I was longwinded. I like shooting.

It's okay… age *is* taking its toll, you know. The most awkward moment in my shooter gaming life was when a very talented protege told me (after wiping out the entire clan during a training session - he wiped out both sides due to sheer boredom), 'I used to admire your skills… back then'. That was the day when I turned to training our defense team full-time
.
I don't have a comp capable of running modern shooters, at least not at the moment, and I don't have no time for playing in competitions anymore, anyway. No training, no skill, it's pretty simple. But there are moments when I feel the urge to play again, espeicially Day of Defeat… sigh…
