I don't believe in any of it as it suspiciously looks as PR stunt.

Maybe this is just Ubisoft Montreal's way of crowdsourcing bugfixing.

At least it was more than a few code snippets. I am getting sick of :
"POSSIBLE PRIVACY BREACH. HIGH PROFILE COMPANY REPORTS ITS SOURCE CODE WAS AVAILABLE ONLINE"
Sources confirm the actual code was UI related and open source stored in Github.

How about all games have a single huge lootbox you pay for up front that contains all the options, items, skins, unlocks etc? I'd pay for that!!

558GB of UI code? Isn't that a bit excessive?
Not in this case, I mean in other cases.

I can't imagine the code would be of all that much use to competitors. Since it was stolen by hackers, it will still be protected as a trade secret and proprietary code, and if they identify anyone using it they could take them to the cleaners.
Maybe it has some interesting approaches to a complex open-world that folks will study. That's a monster code base, though.

Yeah, I think it is a market research ploy by HDD / SSD storage producers to identify likely buyers.

Maybe I should write a few lines of "Hello World" code and then put it online ?
