Yeah, that's the dream I had. The tech they have with their Snowdrop engine, or whatever it's called, is fantastic. Such a shame.

It's not the first game to succeed at that, but I do think it's one of the best. I also agree about The Division. It had great visuals and atmosphere, but it was far too repetitive. For me at least.

That's the norm when it comes to Ubisoft though. They're great at building beautiful worlds, but I don't find their games captivating enough to keep me playing for long. I can't think of a single game from them that I actually finished.

It's the second time when being respawned pretty much took the gravitas out of the horde I accidentally triggered when raiding a NERO outpost. I was sure I deactivated all the speakers at the NERO station near the Old Sawmill, way to the south, but apparently there was one quite detached from the main 5 ones.

So I accidentally brought down the horde on me when I powered the station up, and pretty much died to the wave. But then I just got respawned inside the station, and again the horde was gone. Really kills the dangerousness of the horde if you so easily get away from them. I mean, after respawn, the sawmill wasn't exactly empty, but it was a far cry from the dozens that crashed into me initially. It was a real feast for the eyes.

Oh, and I really liked the mission with drunk Boozer. It was sweet and nicely done.

I'm pretty sure the repawning is done that way to ensure that the player doesn't get stuck in a situation where they're getting killed as soon as they spawn.

I don't like to die so respawning into a suddenly empty area doesn't bother me. I try to put myself in my character's head, and being ripped apart by a zombie horde is something I'd prefer to avoid.

Yeah, but why not just reload your most recent save? Or make you reload? To a state before triggering the horde. Because the way it is now it offers a quick way to get away from the horde. Though you could argue that if it would reload you, you could just find the last remaining speaker and not trigger the horde at all. Anyway, just something I found weird.

One thing that is not fun is the forced stealth sequences in some missions. At least give us a chance to escape and hide when we're spotted. Instead, it's instant game over and back to your last save. Very poorly designed.

I also don't like the forced time of day shifts when you reach a mission. Or how the world state resets when you reach a mission start checkpoint, regardless of what you were doing until that very second.

Spoiler

The other big thing that happened, is I handled a bounty at the old sawmill. And being there I thought I'd take on the horde. And holy shit is it big. Just endless. I think I killed around 200+ (that's the amount of ears I had afterwards), and I used up all my initial full stock of ammo. And two refills from my bike pouches. And upon the last time I tried luring them out, they still came out in hundreds.

Do hordes come in different sizes, depending on which one? This one that lays dormant in the old sawmill seems huge. How do you know if you're even close to clearing one out? As I said, after the last time I tried luring them out, having almost no more ammo left, I looked at them from a distance using the binoculars, and they still were as far as the eye could see.

I think the only chance I have to take one out, is if they are indeed of various sizes, and I manage to find a smaller one.

I don't remember if they have different sizes, but I definitely had more trouble with some of them than others. Mostly it's a matter of using the terrain/location to your advantage - and setting up traps and places to herd them wisely.

But you're playing it correctly if you're a little scared of them. They're supposed to be terrifying - and not the typical "game boss" that you know is inevitably defeated in some predetermined way. They're very much "sandbox" encounters that tend to demand creative thinking and coming up with stuff when the plan fails

You don't actually have to defeat more than a single horde in the game IIRC - or maybe two.

So, it's not really designed around them being obstacles you absolutely have to clear.

Seems, as far as these people on Reddit goes, that there are multiple sizes

https://www.reddit.com/r/DaysGone/co…l/horde_sizes/
https://www.thegamer.com/days-gone-e…-location-map/

I think this might be the one I tried to tackle. Big mistake on my part, it seems

Yeah, I went back to the White King Mine, who's horde apparently only has 75, and it was a lot easier. Wasn't a piece of cake, even by a stretch, but compared to the Old Sawmill horde, which just wouldn't end.

Man, this game really keeps on going. I've reached the south area of the map.

And more to the same point

Spoiler

But aside from that, the rest of the game is still as solid as it's been so far. The exploration and atmosphere are great. And so much work went into realizing the world, and I realize that most of it I will not be able to explore. It's there just to give size and scope to the world.

But the most striking thing in the new area is how it looks. It truly is post-apocalyptic, especially in the areas where the army burned it all to cinders. It's really something to behold. Stark and empty. Barren wasteland.

Yeah, the different areas are really well made. I was worried in the beginning that the game world was going to be too samey in terms of landscape and climate, but that's not the case.

I'm currently clearing an infestation during a blizzard, and the change in weather definitely adds another layer to the atmosphere.

Finished the game in four days and absolutely loved it. I predicted most of what was going to happen so I wasn't surprised. The ending left some topics unanswered.

To bad Sony rejected to fund the sequel as the ending sorta hinted at more to come.

Finished it in 4 days? How is that possible? I'm at the 42h mark, and it seems like I've got loads more. Did you only do the main stories? No sidequests or bounties? No random exploring? With just main quests seems the estimate is around 38h. Did you put in 16h days during those 4 days?

Still loving the game. It really has a way of getting you to go out into the world, and put yourself into situations where random things can happen.

But some things are still unbelievable annoying. The fauna mostly. It's like wolves and infested wolves always have my scent. I think the game spawns them way too frequently near me. And these infested wolves seem to have to ability to sprint at the top speed of a motorbike. I'm constantly getting thrashed by sprinting wolfes. Or once, I was in a bike chase, and pop goes the wolf right next to me, and I lose target of my target.

The other worst thing is the huge freakers, which was initially just a boss near the crashed plane in ripper territory. But now they're very frequent. In one quest there were 3 close to each other, and my only chance was to cheese the AI, and draw ea one so I could take them on individually. I'm not kidding when I say one of them take 10 sniper rifle shot, 2 molotovs, and about 100 auto rifle bullets. And it takes forever to take one down. Headshot don't help. I just keep on firing at him, and roll to the side when they swipe at me. Am I doing something wrong? Am I missing an easy way to kill them?

As far as story goes,

Taterhead likes to rush through games as quick as he can so he can come on here and talk about how fast he finished them.

I prefer to prolong the experience when I'm enjoying a game, but that's just me.

Finished everything except a few hordes in the south.

Pro-Tip I always cheat or make my own game trainers.

Here you go - https://flingtrainer.com/trainer/day…iner-20210518/

Four days and took me about 55 hours.

So yes I averaged about 12-16hrs a day in those 4 days?

Yes..Yes..I have no life let me go cry in my corner.

I see no real issue with spending that amount of time, especially once in a while, but why use cheats? It spoils de experience the devs crafted.

Because I can.

If someone is cheating in a single player game, it no way influences anyone else's experience, so no one really has any right to say what they can and cannot do.

I cheat like there's no tomorrow in single-player games, it's about my enjoyment.

Heck I miss cheating on consoles but they blocked that with encryption and MP.

Anyway this is way off-topic and not about Days Gone.
