During an interview with Shacknews, id Software president John Carmack described Doom 4 as being "significantly different" than Doom 3.

When asked whether the game will be rooted in the horror genre, Carmack indicated that it will instead focus more on pure action elements a la Doom 2.

Sounds good to me…..

Well, it's hard to get excited without seeing some footage or screen shot. The change of direction in Doom 4 is acceptable to me, although i would preferred a new IP of ingenious, badass, scary FPS.

Except the voice-emails wasnt doom3 pure action allready? I dont see how it could be anymore like doom2 unless they straighten up the walls.

Im getting these weird urges to play doom2. I still remember som of its levels. Such simple fun.

Doom 3 was different than the first 2 games in the fact that the pacing was much slower. Id concentrated more on the atmosphere rather than large mobs of enemies, most likely because of the limitations of the Doom 3 engine. Many long time Doom fans voiced displeasure concerning the change of styles.

If they add bright blue walls, blood-spouting goat-horned fountains, neon green acid seas, room decoration made out of spilt entrails and colored candles and, of course, some of Bobby Prince's Doom 2 level music, I might even buy it.
I loved Doom 1 and 2, and I was so disappointed with Doom 3 - but not because of the chance of pace: they changed the atmosphere to that of the first Quake (mainly due to the change of lighting and colors). Re-Doom Doom 4, and I'll be with you.
