Dead Space
September 20th, 2008, 06:39
I've been following the development of this game for some time, I don't often get excited about a multi-platform action title, but this game looks extremely promising.
Dead Space is described as "sci-fi survival horror" that is heavy on atmosphere.
http://www.ggmania.com/?smsid=25899 - Great video preview.

These are the third and fourth article on the game with positive comments. I am glad to have nice horror game to be out soon. I'll buy it for sure if reviewers recommending the game.

The Good
* Deeply engrossing story
* Breathtaking visuals and nerve-wracking audio
* Strategic dismemberment adds an entirely new, satisfying dimension to combat
* Truly terrifying gameplay keeps you on the edge of your seat.
The Bad
* Repetitive mission objectives
* Close-quarters combat is troublesome.

I wonder how this compares with Bioshock. I don't generally like FPS, but Bioshock was easy enough (played on easy) that I could focus on the atmosphere, which I thought was stellar. Wonder if Dead Space would be similar, because the atmosphere appears to be incredible.

I'm major 5uxx0rz at those kinds of games, but Bioshock set on easy allowed me to sneak up on the baddies and then stand there and shoot (and be shot) until they fell. None of this strafing BS for me! If Dead Space can be set easy enough that I can enjoy the ambience, I just might buy it. If it requires more than minimal FPS ability, there's no point in me spending the money.

Focus, my good man! Focus!
Remember, when gaging difficulty, think "raging nincompoop".

Dead space is one off this year play through for me. (A game that i finish).
I just love the setting and so far the reviews have been good. Some said the fighting get old, but the story is top notch. I hope that it so. I love good storys in game.
Strangely though i am getting far cry 2 at the same time - i just wonder how i should pull this off time wise!

Far Cry gets pretty good reviews, and according to gamespot's reviews the game last 30 hours if you explore thoroughly.

Wondered if i should get Dead Space for the Xbox or stick with the PC. The PC won when i was at the shop. But, now i dearly regret it. Its a console game. The approach with save points is console and the game should be played with an controller, not a mouse.
Oh, and btw - when the mouse behave sluggish or strange: turn off Vsync it will solve the problem.
If someone else like me is thinking to what plattform i recommend to stay away from the PC version.
Altough the game is promising i might add. But its not a PC game.

It is not game breaking bug, so i will get the PC version. It would probably officially fixed when a patch is released.

They say it works best on ps3 and worst on PC. All to do with controllers. Ill wait for the mag reviews before buying this.

Caught a commercial on TV for this last night. Set to a little girl's voice doing a creepy version of "Twinkle twinkle little star", and it did a great job of highlighting the atmosphere. I'm really hoping it turns out the game will work for FPS numbskulls on a PC…

I got one of my XBOX360 controllers hooked into the game. It works beautfiul. The awkward control scheme doesnt bother you and the tutorial in the beginning correctly assume your using the controller. (Although no schematic about the controller is available in the packaging).
My original negativism above was when i tried it with mouse and keyboard.
I really come to like the safe points.
Ah, the days of audiologs are back. And text logs. Compared to the Far Cry 2 which was more of the same concept (nothing bad about that) this felt just right for me. The replayability is limited in concearns of having a "new" experience. This is a single player game, best played on a machine (your choice) hooked up into a great surround system.
Gah, who would have thought that an XBOX controller would have saved a PC game. (Well, i have no opinion on pc games or consolegames. I just wished that the control scheme for the pc worked (mouse and WASD). In my view, compared to a controller - it absolutly don't).
I am having a hard time putting the game down!
Dead Space was the more expensive of the two. But i just think in my view was worth it! (I am having a system shock feeling - more so than i ever had in let say "Bio Shock").
(This is no RPG, no stats - its just immersive!)
