Default New Nintendo system: "Nintendo Switch"

October 20th, 2016, 17:19

REDMOND, Wash., Oct. 20, 2016 – In an introductory video released today (http://www.nintendo.com/switch), Nintendo provided the first glimpse of its new home gaming system and revealed that it is called Nintendo Switch. In addition to providing single and multiplayer thrills at home, the Nintendo Switch system also enables gamers to play the same title wherever, whenever and with whomever they choose. The mobility of a handheld is now added to the power of a home gaming system to enable unprecedented new video game play styles.

At home, Nintendo Switch rests in the Nintendo Switch Dock that connects the system to the TV and lets you play with family and friends in the comfort of your living room. By simply lifting Nintendo Switch from the dock, the system will instantly transition to portable mode, and the same great gaming experience that was being enjoyed at home now travels with you. The portability of Nintendo Switch is enhanced by its bright high-definition display. It brings the full home gaming system experience with you to the park, on an airplane, in a car, or to a friend’s apartment.

Gaming springs into action by removing detachable Joy-Con controllers from either side of Nintendo Switch. One player can use a Joy-Con controller in each hand; two players can each take one; or multiple Joy-Con can be employed by numerous people for a variety of gameplay options. They can easily click back into place or be slipped into a Joy-Con Grip accessory, mirroring a more traditional controller. Or, if preferred, the gamer can select an optional Nintendo Switch Pro Controller to use instead of the Joy-Con controllers. Furthermore, it is possible for numerous people to bring their Nintendo Switch systems together to enjoy local multiplayer face-to-face competition.

“Nintendo Switch allows gamers the freedom to play however they like,” said Reggie Fils-Aime, President and COO, Nintendo of America. “It gives game developers new abilities to bring their creative visions to life by opening up the concept of gaming without boundaries.”

Developers can design their games supporting a variety of play styles, which gives gamers the freedom to choose an experience that best suits them. Some of the publishers, developers and middleware partners announcing support for Nintendo Switch are as follows:

ARC SYSTEM WORKS Co., Ltd.

Audiokinetic Inc.

Interesting controller. Wonder if this thing will be a bomb or fab.

Why would I want to switch my cozy gaming corner for some other place while gaming ? I don't get it.

I wish they'd just bite the bullet and become a software company, like Sega. I've got no interest in buying all these different systems with "novel" features I don't care about, but I do like to play some of their games.

It looks neat, but it doesn't matter how cool a system is if it doesn't have a good library to support it. The Wii U was a failure because it didn't have enough games that people wanted to play. Hopefully that won't be the case this time around.

Rumor has it that is exactly what Nintendo is going to do if this isn't a success. I suspect this is basically a last-chance product for them in the console market.

It would suit me. The Dolphin emulator is superb these days, so I can play their classics on PC. I'd be happy to just buy their games like any other, going forward. I don't want to see them fail, but this new machine seems to be essentially an Nvidia Shield with clip on controllers and an HDMI dock. Doesn't have much appeal for me.

Wait wait, cmon people. Aside those irritating mushrooms… And even with my hate on Nintendo in general, this new thing doesn't look so bad.
You all sure it won't support phonegames? I'm already imagining it running Sims Freeplay and such crap. Crap, but profitable crap.

I wouldn't bury them yet.

Did no one notice it was running Skyrim Special Edition on the go? I thought that was pretty super.

And since I believe it's running a Tegra chipset, perhaps we will see it on Android? Probably not but that would be pretty neato.

Its apparently a custom Tegra processor
Nintendo Switch is powered by the performance of the custom Tegra processor. The high-efficiency scalable processor includes an NVIDIA GPU based on the same architecture as the world’s top-performing GeForce gaming graphics cards.

Would be interesting to see if its a Tegra 1 or 2 custom. I dont think the original Tegra is capable of the visuals, I maybe wrong however. Maybe future androids if it is Tegra 2?

I am not sure about that. They still have that 10 billion or so in the bank, depends on how badly this bombs if it does.

Oh my. It's exactly what I predicted it would be! Not to toot my own horn or anything.

Looks amazing, but I hope they add full-on Android support. Using the device with Android games as well would be marvelous. Maybe they are just leaving that to Nvidia to do with the Shield 2.0, although for all intents and purposes this device *is* the Shield 2.0.

Looks like they are moving away from the touch screen support, will probably not be Android compatible. :/ The Nintendo Switch that is not the chipset.

Hmm. I suppose that ensures the Shield 2 will be made sometime, then.

1 or 2? No we're way beyond that. If anything it's something faster than a K1, and mostly likely a variation of the X1 (which makes sense why they discontinued their idea for making an X1 Shield tablet.)

All I know is that the Shield, which is a few years old now, already had the power similar to an Xbox 360 or PS4. I hear the new Nvidia chips are pretty amazing.

It looks pretty neat. I'm unlikely to get one but I still like how modular it is.
