Default The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena

December 4th, 2008, 10:27
Great news for those of us who enjoyed The Chronicles of Riddick:Escape From Butcher Bay. The game is being remade with an extra campaign that makes the overall experience twice as long as it originally was, plus a ton of upgraded content including: overhauled graphics, AI, UI, and remastered audio.

From the time you insert Assault on Dark Athena into your disc drive, you'll have the option to play the remake of Escape from Butcher Bay, or jump right into the new Dark Athena campaign. This was a decision made for those gamers who have already partaken in the original game. If you want to play through Butcher Bay, feel free to do so, but it is not required to experience the new content.

Dark Athena is a direct sequel to Butcher Bay -- literally. Riddick awakens on the Dark Athena, a dark vessel with a seemingly infinite supply of steel corridors and plenty of hostile NPCs.
According to Starbreeze themselves, the band is back: all the designers, writers, artists, and programmers who worked on Escape From Butcher Bay have re-united with Riddick himself to escape the dreaded ship Dark Athena, a task that promises to be challenging to the utmost degree, but a blast for fans when the title releases next year.

This is excellent news. I was pleasantly surprised by Escape form Butcher's Bay and I even did a replay recently and it was still a great game. I'd been hoping they'd do a sequel, so I'm very pleased by this announcement.

Excellent news. The original game is testament to the fact that modern games can be good too.

I never played the game, but you guys make it sound as if I should have. And apparently now I got the opportunity to do so. Neat.

I'd love a movie sequel too. Despite all the bashing The Chronicles of Riddick got for whatever reason, I found it was one hell of a ride.

The first game had many of the elements that made Deus Ex and System Shock so entertaining.
There was stealth-lots of it, hacking, even some dialogue. And it not only incorporated them successfully, but through an excellent engine, and good plot. Overall a great game.

However, the demo is out already and I have read that the demo plays to combat heavy with practically zilch stealth from the reviewers. Though this may be only because the demo is made with as broad an audience as possible so it may be "dumbed down".

Anyone else find more info let's see some.

To sum it up, I feel our space program ended up like this. "It's one small step for man. One giant leap for man kind. Oops I fell on my butt after that leap and can't get up anymore."

If you decided not to buy this game after some of the reviews criticized the combat focus of Dark Athena, but still kinda want it, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc…82E16832198066
10 bucks off and free shipping for 2 games, one great, one pretty good.

I'm going to pick this up as a birthday present to myself! I played about an hour of the first? version? of Riddick and enjoyed it (But never got around to purchasing it for myself).

Thanks for the cheap link, Melvil!
